Although he has nothing to go on, Paul Collins accuses one of his new neighbours of stealing his toilet. But Barry believes that Damon's poor spelling clears him of responsibilty for the graffiti found in Gordon's bedroom.

The Close is evacuated, and the residents monitor the situation as it is reported on television. Harry becomes concerned when Edna goes to the toilet and doesn't come back.

Sally Dinsdale's husband has gone on the rampage, and she is fearful of what he might do. Sheila and Matty argue in the taxi home after class, and she gets out and walks into a horrific ordeal.

Sheila arrives home shaken and dazed, and although she tells Bobby what happened, she doesn't want to involve the police. The police pick up a drunken Pat, who looks like he's been in a fight.

A day off work leads to disaster for Sue.

Ron helps to move Bev into her new flat, then Lyn sees him kissing her. DD feels that she needs to talk to someone neutral. Mandy and Beth's plan does not go entirely as they hoped.

The bad news is broken at the reception, and a distraught Lyn is at Frank's bedside when he dies. Jimmy decides he has got to get away.

Simon introduces Terry to his friends and to non-alcoholic lager, giving him something to think about. Ron is lost for words after a celebrity demolishes Tony's pile of pennies, and feels that there is no hope for Tony. Beth and Margaret kiss.

There are guilty secrets, the return of a face from the past, and a dramatic graveside confession at Tony's funeral.

Joey drafts in flying pickets to prevent the "scab" labour arriving, but the police turn up too, and Eddie wonders who tipped management off. Ron makes another attempt to retrieve his clothes. Patricia is determined to continue working. Simon and Terry decide to make a final statement, which involves stealing Barry's car.

The residents hold an extraordinary meeting, but as well as the main business, Max insists on bringing up Ron's fence, and David wants to talk about dog dirt. Mandy tries to convince Beth that she isn't really a lesbian. The discovery of Trevor means that Rachel has to be told the truth, and she flees.......

Lindsey discovers what Little Jimmy has brought home with him. Patricia receives the results of her tests. Danny, distraught at seeing Nat and Georgia in bed together, rushes into the path of Max's car.

Kylie is missing, several of the other residents are injured or trapped, and a second blast rocks the parade.

Time is running out for the trapped residents, and real bravery is required from some of the others.

Jacqui finally admits defeat, and tells Max that she wants to go back to work. Emily worries that Tim's luck will run out one day. Leanne boasts that she has a star witness in her battle against Bev, not realising that he has been forbidden to say anything in her favour. Anthony suffers a worst humiliation than ever before at the hands of Imelda and Paige.

Gary feels that Gabby doesn't understand him, but maybe Nisha does. Stuart discovers that Luke's face was cut while he was staying with Sean. Ruth thinks that Kirsty is holding something back. Psycho becomes increasingly frustrated at missing out on a pool final, and another hostage is released.

The Grants are taken to church by the Collins when there car breaks down and Heather wants Roger to come back to bed instead of watching what is going on in the Close.

Paul registers for benefit, Lucy struggles at the local comprehensive.school, realising that her posh voice and background will be a disadvantage. Barry has a dodgy suggestion for Annabelle.

Roger tries to assemble a shelving unit, despite having not enough screws and no instructions. Bobby plans a strike at work, and there are cookers on the move on the Close.......

Paul's digging amuses Damon and his friends. Barry tells a horrific tale of an accident on the building site. Karen brings home her new boyfriend, Demon Duane.......

Heather wonders why Paul is always at home, Roger is becoming agitated about the cookers in the next garden, Karen's period starts, and a strike looks imminent.

New neighbours arrive.......in a large frozen meat truck. Karen wants to persuade Bobby and Sheila to allow her to go on holiday, and Heather gets her revenge on Roger.

Barry makes Duane understand that boasting about his "conquest" of Karen was really not a very good idea. Meanwhile, Lucy is being physically intimidated at school.

The whole close is burgled, but Petra has more reasons to be upset than most. Not only are her house contents not insured even though she works for an insurance company, but she is still not pregnant.

A buyer for Gavin's cookers turns up at the Huntingtons'. Barry tries to persuade Sheila to bump up their insurance claim.

Sheila is hassled, Bobby is pressurised, Gavin is visited by the council and given a week to dispose of his cookers, and Arthur dies.

Gavin plans revenge, Barry delivers his new doors, and Petra fills in her chart. Damon advises Karen to keep quiet about her decision for the moment.

Roger has an alarm installed, Gordon is resentful, Lucy is being followed, Petra is ovulating and Barry is stabbed.

Roger does his Christmas shopping, all of which is then stolen. Bobby is under increased pressure to end the strike as Christmas approaches.

Lucy is rescued from a kiss under the mistletoe by one of her class-mates. Karen wants to go to a party instead of attending the midnight Mass. Derek makes a pass at Heather.

It is an upsetting Christmas for the Collins family, while Karen has a hangover, Bobby has an emergency meeting, Roger's burglar alarm goes off again, and Damon has no presents.

Barry is determine to get revenge on his attacker, Paul receives some encouraging news, but Petra is still feeling fed up and depressed.

The Grants invite all their neighbours to their New Year's Eve party. Roger and Heather return home, and discover that their alarm has been tampered with, and Gavin has erected a multicoloured shed to house his cookers.

Paul has a job interview and is confident that he has done well. Annabelle starts making clothes for Lucy as part of her economy drive. Bobby goes back to work after the strike, and finds that some of his co-workers are angry

Paul jumps to some wrong conclusions. Petra becomes more obsessed with having a baby. Sheila makes a decision, and Damon invites his mates over.

Karen and Sheila go shopping, while the rest of the family go to watch a football match. Roger joins a badminton club, and Paul suggests a trip to the Lakes to visit Annabelle's mother - but Lucy refuses to go.

Annie's financial worries begin to trouble Sheila, and Barry discovers that he may also have some money problems. Lucy is amused that, without Paul knowing, Annabelle is looking for work.

Damon almost reveals that Karen is on the Pill. Paul wants Annabelle to stay at home, but she would prefer to do some supply teaching. There is more bad news at work for Sheila.

Roger's attempt to take up jogging are not successful. The boys' school reports are not good, so Damon has some serious grovelling to do. Sheila confronts Annie, although Barry has no sympathy.

Barry has to back down in a heated argument with Victor, but then finds himself being propositioned by Eric's wife. Meanwhile, Sheila finds contraceptives in his bedroom, and is determined to find out whose they are.

Barry's denials when Eric confronts him after hearing rumours of his liaisons with Irene seem convincing enough, but he is not as good at explaining to Sheila why he has contraceptive pills in his bedroom. A TV Enquiry Officer visits the Close, and someone hasn't got a licence.......

Sheila is told that Damon has been playing truant. Gavin and Petra have a blazing row, and he storms out, telling her that she will see him in the morning - if she's lucky. Petra's response is to throw a tray through the glass door after him.

Petra awakens in the morning to discover that Gavin has died in his bed during the night, and has to be comforted by her brother-in-law George, her neighbours Roger and Heather, and - especially - Barry.

Annabelle becomes exasperated when her car is caught behind Gavin's funeral cortege and she runs out of petrol. Paul resolves to be more decisive and find himself a job.

Lucy attends a meeting at school, expresses her grievances and tries to stir up some action. Sheila is not convinced that Karen should be on the Pill, and goes to speak to her doctor. Jeff reveals that Duane has been badly beaten up.

tries to set his relationship with Carol on a firmer footing. Redundancies look certain to occur, as one plant at Bobby's work is to be closed down. Sheila seeks advice from her priest.

Gordon is invited to an all-night party, but Paul wants him to be home by 10.30pm. Matty receives a redundancy notice, and is disappointed when Bobby seems unwilling to use his influence to help him. Carol is not impressed when she meets Barry's bit on the touchline.

Annabelle has an unexpected visitor, while Roger and Heather battle over Derek's dinner party. Damon steals Karen's Valentine card, and takes it to show to everyone at school.

Matty and Teresa have dinner with Bobby and Sheila, and end up arguing over redundancies. Meanwhile, Heather and Roger dine with Derek and Angela and their other guests - and Derek hints to Heather that Roger's career could depend on how co-operative she is.......

Damon steams open the wrong letter. Barry and Frank are horrified by Petra's attitude and her detemination to get Gavin completely out of her life.

Annabelle tries to convince Paul that he cannot claim free meals for Gordon at his private school. Barry and Frank plan a surprise for Petra, but she has a bigger surprise for Barry.

The Huntingtons are burgled again, and Roger sets off around the Close to interrogate his neighbours. The Educational Welfare Officer visits the Grants to find out why Damon has been missing school.

Redundancy in the Grant household forces Damon and Karen to think of ways of earning cash. But Barry brightens the day by bringing home paint for the planned redecoration.

When Petra's boss makes a pass at her, Michelle suggests that Petra tells him that she is pregnant. There are differing views over how a ratepayers' association should be run.

Sheila waits at home while Bobby and his mates endlessly drink and drivel after-hours about nothing of any significance or interest.

The Huntingtons suspect that they have another intruder, and they're right. Damon is stranded in the bungalow after arguing with his mates. Lucy tells Gordon of her doubts about her relationship with Jonathan.

Roger's parents visit for Easter, and his father's offers to help around the house don't go down too well. Gordon suggests that Lucy should give Jonathan a taste of his own medicine.

It's time for church, but Karen and Damon have gone missing. Sydney sees Barry laying paving stones for Petra, and asks whether he could get some for Roger. Lucy drops Gordon right in it.

After Michelle expresses doubts that they should be spending so much time together, Petra and Barry talk things over. Meanwhile Sydney makes Damon pay when he catches him doing something naughty in church.

Alan measures the bungalow, but can he find anybody who knows enough geography to help him out? Roger invites everyone for a drink to celebrate his and Sydney's birthdays. Lucy practises for her stint on "What The Papers Say".

Damon and his friends become uneasy about Alan, but their fears prove unfounded. The Huntingtons' party doesn't go as planned.

Paul suspects Barry of stealing his paving stones. Samantha resists Alan's invitation to more into the bungalow with him. Karen is threatened with suspension from school for swearing at a teacher.

Bobby and Sheila have a fun evening out, followed by a full-scale row with Karen when she reveals that she no longer intends to go to church.

Barry resorts to drastic action when his boss, Ted, confronts him about removing materials from the building site. Alan chats to Michelle, and invites her to come and look at his computer. Lucy makes a new friend.

Heather is studying for her exams and feeling tetchy. Lucy decides to go to a CND rally. When she hears that Barry and Terry are planning to go into business together, Michelle suggests that Petra could do their secretarial work.

Bobby has some advice for Jonah, whose one-night-stand with Jean leaves him feeling lonely. Gordon tells Annabelle she is turning into Brookside's "iron lady" - but can she persuade Alan to join the ratepayers' association?

When Jonah's aggression in court leads to his rights of access to his son becoming restricted, Bobby persuades him to appeal. Paul plans to sell his car, and Alan asks Samantha to marry him.

Against Michelle's advice, Marie visits Sheila to explain why Barry is becoming too involved with Petra. Lucy and Gordon hatch a plot to enable her to go to the CND rally with Janice. Someone comes to stay with Heather while Roger is away.

Heather and Polly play scrabble, and compare their prospects. Lucy is disappointed with the small turnout at the demonstration. Petra and Barry are both annoyed when they discover that Marie spoke to Sheila about them.

Although Annabelle visits Sheila to remind her about the ratepayers' meeting, Roger is the only one who turns up. Samantha increases Sheila's fears about Bobby's job by telling her she suspects Fairbanks will be closing soon.

The Collins family celebrate Annabelle's birthday, while Bobby plans to take Sheila to London for the final of the F.A. Cup. Damon is sent home from school, suffering from lovesickness - and marriage still doesn't appeal to Samantha.

Gordon attempts to convincingly order a drink in a pub. Barry's confrontation with Dave results in Petra quitting her job.

Barry pays Karen to cook lunch for him and Petra - but she goes out and it is burned. Tempers flare, and Petra storms out, doubting that Barry really wants to be with her.

Paul is recalled for a job interview, but decides not to take the position because he feels it is beneath his capabilities. Heather argues with Roger, who is then run over by a bus.

Now that his ribs are broken, Roger is reconciled with Heather. Annabelle goes to a district ratepayers' meeting, and Paul has another interview.

George Williams gives Bobby confidential and disturbing news about the factory's future, and Sheila dreads the conflicts that may follow. Michelle attempts to heal the rift between Barry and Petra, but Marie may not approve of their holiday plans.

A chance meeting with Barry affects Alan's holiday plans. Sheila fears that she and Bobby will have less time together, even though the factory closure seems even more likely.

Michelle and the Grants awaken to discover that Petra and Barry have sneaked off to the Isle of Man for a holiday.......but so have Alan and Samantha!

Barry and Petra sneak out of the hotel early in the hope of escaping from Alan and Samantha. When Petra begins to feel unwell, she thinks it's the baby.

Marie and Michelle visit Petra, who is in hospital after having a miscarriage. Barry offers to give them a lift home. Heather and Roger talk about their marriage, but Roger is summoned into work.

Paul has another interview.......at the Dole office. Roger and Heather argue about work and starting a family.

Damon goes skating with Elsa, who then goes off with her mates. Lucy goes on a demonstration instead of sitting an exam.

Paul goes to the police station, and Lucy is released with a caution. Damon and Elsa decide just to be good friends.

As her final exams approach, the pressure is getting to Heather - and when she walks out after an argument with Roger, he rings another woman.... Alan and Samantha encourage Bobby to teach Sheila to drive. Annabelle is not convinced that their troubles with Lucy are over.

Petra tries to start facing the future. Heather and Roger are meant to be celebrating, but he doesn't come home. Karen gets her CSE results.

Gordon goes to look at Alan's computer. Jonah tries to placate Annabelle and Paul after Lucy's arrest. Roger reacts angrily to Heather's impulsive spending.

Gordon and Lucy are uncomfortable about how close Annabelle seems to be with Robin Tate. Karen, Pauline and Susi go into town to investigate starting up a new venture.

When Barry refuses to do Petra's decorating, Terry volunteers. Bobby is concerned when Alan Torenson questions him, fearing that the secret report has been leaked.

Practising her driving alone, Sheila crashes into Alan's car. Petra believes Gavin has returned from the dead, but it's someone else.

Gordon chooses a jacket that will "express his personality". Lucy loses her knickers. Roger misses out on a partnership, but Paul is offered a job, and decides to accept it.

Roger tells Heather a convincing lie about where he was last night. Lucy and Gordon discover that the family holiday will have to be postponed.

The closure of the factory is announced, and redundancy is now only 90 days away for Bobby and Jonah. Meanwhile, someone is lurking in the undergrowth and observing the residents of the Close...

Sheila is upset at the possibility that Bobby may have to seek work abroad, and even more upset when Barry leaves for London with her kidney fund money. Roger is worried when he is spotted dining out with his rich client.

Roger helps to mend Michelle's cassette recorder - but Damon is equally keen to repair Samantha's broken window.

Damon and Gizzmo play a trick on Karen and Susi while they are sunbathing. Bobby persuades Sheila to take a holiday in Anglesey. Petra returns home from the shops, packs a suitcase, and leaves home.

Petra's car is found, and Alan mistakes the detective who arrives to speak to Michelle for the flasher. Lucy storms out after Annabelle slaps her during an argument.

Gordon reveals that Lucy is staying at Janice's. Mr Johnston thinks Heather is a secretary, then discovers that she is his accountant. Marie is convinced that Petra will come home.

A policewoman tells Michelle that Petra may have committed suicide. Paul convinces Lucy to come home. A chance remark cause Heather to become suspicious of Roger.

Annabelle and Paul suggest that Lucy goes to France for six months, and she agrees. Heather discovers that Roger isn't where he should be - but she doesn't know where he is. Sheila decides that if Bobby isn't going to fight, she will...

Maureen Lomax arrives to collect the kidney machine money from Sheila, who can only give her a cheque. Heather accuses Roger of being unfaithful.

A parcel arrives for Heather, but it might not distract her from questioning Roger about his movements. Barry returns home, but he is not alone. Lucy and Karen receive their O-level results, and there are more birthday celebrations in the Close.

Sheila is convinced that Val is not really unable to speak English, and proves it by having Alan pretend to by a fluent Chinese speaker. Diane gives Roger an expensive tie-pin for services rendered.

Diane wants Roger to go away on holiday with him, so he tells Heather more lies. Damon gets into more trouble, and Lucy leaves to spend six months in France.

On Paul's first day in his new job, he is called up for jury service. Roger is reluctant to commit himself to going on a holiday to Corfu with Heather. In return for a favour, Alan lets Val move in with him for a while.

Paul has to deal with a problematic trainee. Diane and Heather finally come face-to-face.

Damon and his mates find a new way of making mischief. Alan has a setback in his bid to earn more than Samantha.

Heather receives her exam results, but Roger is too busy with Diane to ask her if she has passed.

Barry goes shopping for Bobby and Sheila's anniversary. Bobby discusses the factory closure with George Williams, and Heather and Roger fight. Annabelle has an unexpected guest.

Marie finds a letter from Petra, and calls the police. Heather hears conclusive proof that Roger is having an affair with Diane, and throws him out.

Roger gets a shock when he goes to see Diane again. Bobby and Sheila plan their 25th wedding anniversary party.

Both Samantha and Val think a message Alan has left is for them. Sydney prepares to escort Heather, and Gizzmo is beaten up.

Sheila tries to set up an action committee. Barry tries to tempt Terry. Alan's bottom is bitten during a rugby match.

Barry and Terry's attempts to store their knock-off jeans are continually thwarted. Alan discovers who bit his bottom. The residents meet their new neighbours - Edna and Harry Cross.

While Heather visits her parents in Belfast, Roger returns to the Close and almost burns her house down.

Heather talks to Will about her marriage, and prepares for life on her own. Annabelle takes Sheila for a driving lesson.

Annabelle gets carried away, Sheila joins the picket line, and Barry and Terry discover that some of their jeans have gone missing.

Sheila is disappointed when the newspaper coverage of the pocket line is dominated by Samantha. Terry and Barry are not the only ones selling jeans....

Sheila is invited to appear on television, and George buys Paul's cardigan at the bring and buy sale.

Sydney takes Heather and Roger out for the day in an attempt to reconcile them. Sheila puts forward strong arguments in her interview, but returns home to bad news.

Bobby tries to negotiate a fair settlement, Barry and Terry need some cable, and Marie's washine machine needs to be repaired.

The Jacksons' bonfire has some surprising contents. Marie finds that her kitchen is full of water. Mike tells Karen he is joining the Army.

Harry and Edna move in. While Harry tells Paul about his boxing medals, Mark steals them - but Damon and Gizzmo are blamed.

Paul and Heather see Gizzmo being beaten up by his brother. Damon fights with Mark, and wins - but Bobby tells him off.

When Harry's attention is diverted, Damon and Gizzmo start moving his gnomes around. Barry helps Samantha retrieve a valuable disk Alan has accidentally dropped behind a cabinet, but then she spills coffee on it.

Barry works on Bobby's car. Gordon and Mark go to a recording studio to hand in their demo tape. Gordon asks the receptionist for a date, but she turns him down.

Sheila and Karen go to bingo, and Karen wins £75. Alan continues his search for the missing disk, and blames Gordon when it turns up damaged.

Karen arrives home late with Mike, and Bobby throws him out. Karen and Bobby then argue over her giving away her bingo winnings.

Paul tries to pacify Jack when he discovers Gordon has the stolen drum-box. Everyone on the Close is having car trouble.

Barry and Terry go to the beach to burn the Jaguar, but discover they haven't enough petrol. When they return with some, they find the car is sinking into the sand.

Marie decides to try to contact Petra by putting an ad in the paper. Heather is invited to the firm's annual dinner with Roger and feels that she can't tell her boss that her marriage has broken up.

When Alan refuses to tell Harry why he has dug a pit, he starts to fill it in. Heather spends a day at Mr Johnston's printing firm in Billinge, and agrees to let Polly come and stay with her.

Harry discovers that some of his gnomes are up Alan's Christmas tree, and that his is the only garden without a sapling. Marie and Michelle face a gruesome task. Heather and Polly gain a third lodger.

Polly and Sydney disturb Heather when she has work to do at home. Harry is asked to dress up as Father Christmas. Samantha returns home earlier than expected.

As Christmas approaches, Heather battles to save her client's business. Marie receives news that George has been injured and taken to hospital. Bobby and Matty deliver Christmas hampers, and Barry and Terry try to sell dodgy perfume.

Heather dashes back to Ireland, Marie and Michelle discover that Petra has sent them a Christmas card, and Barry and Terry discover a more profitable use for their perfume.

Having Lucy home for Christmas doesn't improve Annabelle's mood, but can she be persuaded to see a doctor? Mike hears a few tales when he returns home on leave from the Army.

The Collins family have a party on New Year's Eve, but Gordon is out getting drunk elsewhere. Mike comes to visit Karen, but ends up playing cards with Barry and Terry.

Harry loses his underwear. Annabelle goes to the doctor. The Huntingtons' burglar alarm goes off again.

The long johns thief is exposed. Sheila decides to set up an agency, and, after an argument with Marie, vows never to speak to her again.

Annabelle and Marie clean Heather's house. Samantha asks Alan to marry her. Paul has more problems with Skelly.

Annabelle wants to have her hair done in case she is invited to Alan's wedding, but her telephone isn't working. Paul discusses how the YTS scheme is progressing with his boss.

When Alan hears that his mother is on the way to visit him, his extensive preparations including convincing Samantha to move out of the bungalow for a few days.

Molly finally meets Samantha, whose boss gives her something to think about as her wedding day approaches. Paul tells Annabelle that their medical insurance has lapsed. Marie and George can now go home - but do they want to?

Marie tries to convince George that they should continue to live at Petra's. It's Alan and Samantha's wedding day, but not quite everything goes according to plan.

Molly believes that Alan has been taken for a mug, and tries to dispose of his photo of Samantha. Marie and Michelle are at loggerheads over who should stay on at number 10, but then they have an unexpected visitor bringing bad news.

Barry has to decide whether he should go to Petra's funeral. Alan discovers that Molly has fed his muesli to the birds. Harry finds a betting slip in Edna's purse.

Harry prepares for a visit from his son, but he doesn't know that Kevin has told Edna he is living with a married woman and her daughter. When Mrs O'Rourke tells Marie it is what Petra wants, she and George move back to the Close.

When Damon is sent out of his domestic science class, he discovers an ingenious use for a piece of clingfilm. Kevin worries about how Harry will react to his secret.

While waiting to see his head of year, Damon invites Pat to the Valentine's Day disco. Harry confronts Edna about her betting.

Everyone is waiting for Valentine cards, but who will receive them? Terry's tricks rebound. Heather has an interview.

Damon faces suspension, Matty wants to fiddle his electricity meter, and Annabelle bows out of the ratepayers' association.

Heather's boss tries to convince her to change her mind about resigning. Barry thinks he has won a bet - but the arrival of a stranger from Ireland may change things.

Bobby is more willing to help Matty with his problems than to help Sheila with hers. Terry pretends to be injured to avoid having to go jogging with Michelle.

Marie is not convinced that the Jacksons now face a better future. Karen receives a letter from Mike.

Damon plans to get drunk with Gizzmo to celebrate his 16th - or 4th - birthday. Heather has no shortage of willing helpers when her car won't go.

Harry is not pleased to find that Edna has discussed his attitude to Kevin with Marie. Sheila spots a tiny flaw in Karen's boycott plans.

Marie gets a shock when her long-lost father turns up. Heather gives Sheila some book-keeping advice. Harry and Edna try a spot of match-making.

Ted tells Karen why he must refuse to support her campaign. Annabelle and Paul have a win on the premium bonds.

Robin asks Annabelle to be his election agent. Michelle finds that her tights have gone missing, but soon the Jacksons face a more difficult predicament

Even though Barry is without a car, he is determined to keep his promise to take Heather to the airport. Davey is shocked to discover the terms of Petra's will.

Davey leaves, taking Michelle's catalogue money with him. A "For Sale" sign outside Heather's house causes speculation among her neighbours.

Edna goes with Jessica to choose a mother's day present for Sally. Michelle insists that Barry takes Terry to hospital.

There are surprises all round as Mother's Day and April Fools' Day coincide. Tommy McArdle turns up at the Grants' with some advice for Barry.

Robin needs to deliver his election nomination papers, but the Jacksons' dog is squatting on his car seat. Marie very nearly calls a truce.

Terry feels that Michelle is over-dressed for her first shift at the pub. There's a shock in store for Matty.

Sheila feels guilty over what has happened to Matty. Paul receives an invitation to a reunion at PetroChem.

When Alan shows his new girlfriend Liz his bungalow, she tells him they will have to move. The Grants go to church on Easter Sunday, except for Barry. who is worried about the car Tommy McArdle has borrowed.

Liz deliberately misleads Gordon about Alan's intentions, causing bad feeling throughout the Close and some embarrassing late-night outbursts.

Annabelle is concerned when Paul hasn't returned home. Alan receives a rude awakening and some unpleasant truths, and Barry is subjected to some tough questioning.

Marie finds something unfamiliar in George's bed. Bobby suspects that Barry is up to something and tells him to leave.

When Annabelle discovers Paul and Dorothy together, she decides to go and stay with her mother. Bobby is elected District Secretary.

George wants Michelle and Marie to come to an agreement about the house. Harry wants his bed moved downstairs while he recuperates. Heather's senior manager receives a letter about her from Roger.

Alan's day begins with the arrival of a parcel, but then he discovers its contents. Heather's meeting with an old acquaintance ends unhappily. Barry and Terry carpet everyone they can.

Paul resigns from the youth training scheme and, in Annabelle's absence, celebrates with Dorothy. Heather has another visitor from Ireland. Alan becomes more depressed.

The neighbours rally round when Alan finds himself fighting for his life after Liz returns to the Close with a sinister friend who beats him up and wrecks the bungalow.

Annabelle returns home to find a suspicious son and an absent husband. Sheila decides to go on holiday, but a visit to the doctors confirms her worst fears. Alan discharges himself from hospital.

Bobby and Sheila relax on holiday in Spain, but Sheila is trying to pluck up the courage to tell Bobby that she's pregnant.

Sheila and Bobby ponder on how the rest of the family will take their news. Michelle buys a car, and encourages Terry to teach her to drive.

Tensions mount in the Collins household, and Annabelle follows Paul to the tailors'. When Michelle comes home, she discovers that she has moved house.

Barry tries to break into Heather's bedroom. Annabelle meets an old acquaintance. Marie wants to send the twins to private school.

Karen realises that her parents have something to tell her, but isn't at all prepared for what it is.

There are differences of opinion in the Grant household about Sheila's pregnancy. Barry and Celia discuss their tool-hire venture.

Matty appears in court. Alan and Samantha spread the happy news of their impending marriage. Alan is offered a job abroad, and puts the bungalow on the market.

Harry makes an offer for Alan's bungalow, but Edna discovers that it involves blackmail. Marie receives some bad news about the twins' prospects of private education, and confronts the headmaster.

It is Samantha and Alan's wedding day - but there is a terrible accident.

Alan prepares to leave the Close for good. Marie tries to persuade George to change his mind. The Grants visit Sheila in hospital, and the doctor has some disturbing news for Bobby.

Sheila has made her decision about the tests the hospital has suggested, but will Bobby agree with her? Michelle decides to train as a beautician, and Marie advises her on how to dress.

Marie and Michelle prepare for their cocktail party, but at least one of them may be in for a disappointment. Barry and Terry have to make a deal with Victor - but Celia isn't satisfied with it.

Andrew asks Karen to go on holiday with him to the Lake District. Heather sorts out Alan's boat, and Marie voices her suspicions about Michelle and George.

Marie is concerned when George fails to return from helping to quench a big warehouse fire. Celia receives money from her father to invest in the tool-hire business.

Bobby and Sheila receive a surprising telephone call. Michelle becomes an official partner in the tool-hire business, and Terry proposes to her - but they decide to try living together first.

Sheila and Bobby arrange a Spanish reunion with Ken and Doreen, but it doesn't quite go according to plan. Victor is in a spot of trouble.

The police call on the Jacksons', and George is taken away for questioning. Rose tells Heather she is returning to Ireland, then her fiance turns up on the doorstep....

Paul advises Annabelle to keep her distance from the Jacksons, but she agrees to stand bail for George anyway. Damon tells Linda what he heard about her and Danny. Rose leaves for Ireland.

When prospective bungalow buyers the Prides arrive, Harry shows them round his house instead. Some familiar faces return to the Close, and one of them desperately needs a bath.

Damon and his mates meet up with some girls from London. Barry accidentally reveals that he knows more about George's predicament than he should. The Hardwicks visit Harry and Edna.

George sees his solicitor, while Barry and Terry try to work out how they can help him. Damon and Gizzmo arrange to go to London with Yvonne and Dawn.

Celia warns Barry that he will have to mend his ways if they are to continue in business, but their problems are not over yet. Karen returns from holiday, but her lies are soon discovered.

Michelle returns from London and finds out what has happened to George from Terry - the couple spend their first night at the flat. George confronts Tommy McArdle, and soon regrets it.

Tommy McArdle assures George that he shouldn't worry if he is sent down. The twins start their new school. It's Karen's 18th birthday - but will Bobby spoil it for her?

Gordon receives a mysterious letter from a young lady demanding money from him. A depressed George tells Marie he is going to plead guilty. Can Annabelle or Paul talk him out of it?

Marie worries that George won't turn up for his court appearance - but he does, and pleads not guilty. The young lady who wrote to Gordon turns up at the Collins' house.

Marie suggests to Edna that George can help them move house - but Harry won't allow him to. Cathy suggests to Gordon that he has an ear pierced, so that he looks less like a bank manager.

While on a day trip, George heroically rescues a drowning child, but his glory is short-lived. Sinbad tells Edna that he didn't place her bet, and she panics because she has already given Marie her share of the winnings.

Harry produces a questionnaire for prospective tenants to complete and tries it out on Edna, who scores 23%. Michelle wants Terry to tell his father that he is moving in with her - or, failing that, to bring his record player over.

Prospective tenants Sandra and Kate arrive at the Crosses, and Harry incorrectly assumes that the third tenant, Pat, is also female. When Linda finds out that Damon has lied, he has no girlfriend and no job.

Cathy and Gordon plan to turn a bathroom into a darkroom. After watching their new tenants move in, the Crosses begin to suspect that one of them is a man. George reads of his heroism in the newspaper - but will Marie respect his decision not to reveal his identity?

Harry confronts Pat. George receives another unexpected visitor - but will he be able to help? Things develop for Gordon and Cathy.

Paul complains to Harry about Pat's mode of transport; but, surprisingly, Harry defends his tenants. Andrew suggests to Karen that they go away for a weekend to look at universities. Damon tells Sheila he is thinking of moving to London.

Karen refuses to spend the night with Andrew. Sheila tries to help Damon to find a job. Ralph offers Harry and Edna a cheap holiday.

George's solicitor tries to reassure him. Paul discovers that getting a repair done late on a Friday is not easy. An elite group selected by computer includes everyone living on the Close and visiting it.

Paul's never-ending search for a spare part crucially depends on finding a man called Wilf. Marie asks Michelle for money to pay for George's barrister. Damon telephones Linda.

The case against George begins, with the prosecution calling a key witness, and his chances look poor.

On the second day of his trial, George speaks in his own defence. Barry and Terry finally decide to help him, but fear they are too late.

Barry gets Sheila a pram, but discovers that she won't allow it in the house before the baby is born. Marie reflects on the outcome of the trial.

Pat, Sandra and Kate throw a party. Terry and Barry hear that their shop has been burgled and hope to turn this to their advantage, but something nastier is planned for them.

Paul makes a morbid discovery. The atmosphere at the hospital is tense. Celia and Michelle consider what to do about the tool-hire business.

Heather realises that she is the victim of a confidence trick, but by chance she has the last laugh. Bobby is annoyed with Barry, and Sheila is worried.

Heather begins her audit of NSAOS. Bobby asks Barry to clear out the garage while he recuperates. The Crosses return from holiday, but Harry is still grumbling.

Heather impresses her boss by her handling of a delicate matter on the NSAOS audit. Pat warns Harry not to turn up uninvited at the nurses' home. Barry makes a major decision, and Edna finds out that Grace has died.

When Harry reappears in the nurses' home with a donkey instead of an invtation, Pat decides to have the locks changed. Barry seeks help from Celia, but will she offer it? Michelle is reluctant to employ someone to take Terry's place while he is recovering.

Sandra comes out of the shower to find Harry rummaging through her drawers. When she finally allows him to go home, he finds Ralph stripping in his lounge.

Heather prepares for a dinner guest. Paul tries to convince the Board of the need to introduce external contractors. Edna has a run of bad luck with the horses.

Terry comes home from hospital. Barry says his farewells. Edna's money worries increase, and she has to take drastic action.

Edna continues to gamble, even though it means she has to pawn her rings to raise some cash. Bobby takes on a case of unfair dismissal, and Michelle becomes disenchanted with having to look after Terry.

Kevin wants Edna to consider going to Gamblers Anonymous - but will Harry agree? Marie goes to see her MP - but can he help her?

The twins are sent home from school for fighting. Annabelle and Paul view Christmas with mixed feelings. A rift develops between Terry and Michelle.

Bobby is called on to assist with a case of sexual harrassment. Paul has a serious surplus of turkeys. It's time to switch on the Christmas lights at the bungalow - but will they work?

On Christmas Eve, Sheila has to make a mad dash for the hospital....

On Christmas Day, Marie is depressed about George, and refuses to let the twins keep a donkey they find. Paul is annoyed because he has lost the television page from his paper. Sheila is confined to bed while the others cook dinner, and Harry fears that he is having a heart attack.

Heather is called in to work for a crisis meeting. Betty is keen to further the campaign to free George, but Michelle has other ideas. Paul finds that there is not enough space for his car in the garage.

Heather tries to work from home, but she is continually interrupted. Ralph begins to miss Grace, but also starts to look to the future.

Sheila prepares for a home delivery, and Marie sets off on a long journey to visit George.

Annabelle has to act quickly when her dinner guests arrive early. Stuart has a belated Christmas present for Heather. Bobby and Sheila become parents of a new daughter.

Bobby is determined to sort out the sexual harrassment case. Kate discovers that Pat is selling food to hospital patients.

Kate is in trouble at the hospital. Paul is accused of taking a bribe. Marie and Betty talk to Rick about George.

Heather starts a new assignment which leads to something other than business. Marie goes to visit George in prison, but finds that he has absconded.

Heather meets an old flame. Marie is visited by the police. Sheila shows signs of post-natal depression.

Sheila confesses to Annabelle that she has started to resent having a new baby. Curzon Communications' chief accountant makes life difficult for Heather.

Terry tells Sheila about a letter he has received from George. Annabelle gets a shock.

Paul has to attend a difficult business meeting instead of accompanying Annabelle to Gordon's school.

Michelle trips the light fantastic with the new dance instructor. Colin is in favour of calling a strike, and Heather meets Tom Curzon. It emerges that Gordon is in France with Lucy.

Annabelle leaves to visit Gordon in France. George has some bad news for Marie. At a disco, Karen and Susi pretend to be French girls.

Bobby proposes a "cooling off" period to Paul. The Grants' baby has a minor accident. A stranger arrives at the Jacksons'.

Marie wakens to find that the visitor has left, taking several of her possessions with him.

Despite playing a prank on Neil, it is Damon who finds himself the April Fool. Heather finds herself back on the Curzon review, and Marie prepares to move out.

Sheila's sister Margaret and her family arrive for the christening ceremony. Karen tries to conceal a love-bite on her neck. Before leaving the Close, Marie gives Sheila a present for the baby.

Heather returns to Curzon's to find the company in a crisis. Edna and Ralph place an accumulator bet on six horses.

Sackings follow when Howard, Joyce and Heather present their review to Tom Curzon, and Harry takes action against Billy Mac. Things get physical between Karen and Andrew.

Damon has to attend a YTS interview. Sandra and Pat consider hiring a kissogram for Kate's birthday. When one man comes to her door, Heather has to hide another one in the kitchen.

Pat sets up a singing telegram service and tries to involve Damon, but Bobby has other plans for him. Tom Curzon invites Heather to spend a weekend with him in Portugal.

The singing telegram turns out to be a few notes short. Harry consults a lawyer.

Sandra is disgusted that Jackie is delivering kissograms as "Fifi The Naughty Night Nurse", and that Kate made the costume. Heather and Tom travel around Portugal - but what lies ahead for them when they return?

Sandras discovers that radiographer Jimmy Powell has x-ray eyes. Damon receives a job offer. A pillar box is installed on the Close.

Annabelle employs a cleaner. Pat has "words" with the radiographer who attacked Sandra. Damon begins his YTS scheme.

Michelle goes dancing with Richard, but later finds out that he's not who he claims to be. When Victor visits the bungalow on Tommy McArdle's behalf, Ralph ends up flat on his back.

Harry is made an offer, but only if he keeps his mouth shot. Michelle has a surprise for Terry. There's some bad news for Pat.

Paul finds himself in a somewhat embarrassing position. Heather has something to celebrate. Ralph makes a decision.

Serious pressure is put on Harry to drop the court case. Michelle and Terry continue to fool each other and themselves.

Terry disturbs Karen's reunion. Paul is asked to be more specific about how he will reward the strike-breakers. The food thief is finally caught in the act.

Terry learns that McArdle has been released. Bobby speaks to his doctor about the possibility of having a vasectomy. Paul believes he may have found a way of ending the strike.

Heather amuses Greg with her attempts to park Tom's car. Bobby tries to arrange to have a vasectomy without Sheila finding out. Karen and David decide to go to see a film that doesn't have scenes of gratuitous singing and dancing.

Karen sits her last exam, Tom invites Heather to dinner, and Terry makes a statement.

Michelle leaves the Close to live with Marie in Leeds. Sandra plans a holiday in Rimini. Tom discovers that something valuable he has left in Heather's car has gone missing.

Sheila becomes suspicious about Bobby's visit to the doctor, and Karen gets a shock when she goes to visit Bobby at work.

Bobby is forced to come clean about his vasectomy when Sheila's stepladders accidentally poke him in the front room. Sinbad buries a television.

Sheila overhears Damon and Karen discussing the stand-off between her and Bobby. Jack wants to impress a new woman, and asks Terry a favour. Tom tells Heather there is someone he wants her to meet.

Eileen becomes suspicious of Jack's living arrangements. Bobby and Sheila consider separating. Tom introduces Heather to his father, Jim.

Terry suggests that Sheila should consult a priest. Harry and Ralph decide to go to a car auction.

Tom and Heather discuss their future. Sheila turns to the church for help with her problems.

Heather plans a celebration with Tom but gets a shock when she calls unexpectedly at his office. Sandra returns from her holidy in Rimini, and Neil persuades Damon to go busking.

Harry discovers that running a car will be expensive. Tom suggests to Heather that they cancel a date. Neil asks Damon for a divorce. The stranger returns.

Pat, Sandra, and Kate find themselves at the mercy of an unbalanced man with a gun.

Annabelle becomes suspicious after speaking to Kate and hearing about her encounters with Harry and the milkman, but Paul doesn't believe her. Damon and Neil prepare for a seance. The captor becomes increasingly unhinged.

The siege continues, and Pat undermines Kate's attempts to end it peacefully.

The Close is evacuated, and the residents monitor the situation as it is reported on television. Harry becomes concerned when Edna goes to the toilet and doesn't come back.

After gunshots ring out, the police move in, but there are only dead bodies to be recovered.

Reporters are swarming around the Close, and Terry accuses Harry of profiteering from the death of one of his tenants.

As a result of the newspaper coverage of the siege, Annabelle and Harry both receive letters from the tax man. Terry and Sandra have to go to London for a funeral.

Ghoulish appetites for a glimpse of the scene of the crime make matters worse. While Harry is arguing with other residents outside, Edna suffers a stroke in the kitchen.

Paul and Annabelle prepare to go on holiday, but first he wants to know why an extra television set has appeared in the house. There is no hospital bed available for Edna. Karen's exam results arrive.

Edna has a relapse and is in a critical condition. Paul and Annabelle prepare to camp out in their back garden, but is their tent waterproof?

Damon and Neil find out that the photo of Karen they entered for a competition has won. Harry's spirits are low, as Edna's condition remains unchanged.

Harry is hopeful that Edna will be able to come home. Sandra is surprised when someone from the Close turns up while she visits her mother in Glasgow.

Harry and his family maintain a vigil at Edna's bedside, but she is not going to wake up. Matty is disappointed when he is unsuccessful at his job interview.

Pat and Sandra return from Glasgow and find Harry in their house, distraught because Edna has died.

There's an unfortunate case of mistaken identity, as the vicar puts his foot in it at Edna's funeral. When Terry returns from the funeral, he discovers that new arrivals the Corkhills have dumped his belongings outside number 10.

Terry and Pat discover that televisions dug up from the garden don't necessarily work. Billy has a surprise for Doreen: a ready-to-assemble fireplace kit. Jim hears something he shouldn't hear on Heather's answerphone.

Sandra is feeling the strain of being the only breadwinner in the house. Heather regrets lying to Jim. Doreen needs help with the building of her fireplace.

Terry and Pat go to the bank. Karen and David play monopoly. Paul sets off for a military reunion dinner but has no intention of arriving there.

Doreen's mother, Julia, reveals a few home truths about Billy's criminal past. Annabelle is startled when she questions Paul over his reunion dinner. Harry sells, then buys again.

Heather is worried when she receives some mysterious phone calls. By chance, a cigarette end found down the toilet ends up in Sandra's meal.

Tom asks Heather to be "Mrs Curzon". Sandra gives Pat three months to make the van-hire business a success. Damon needs plenty of initiative when Karen asks him to change a book he has given her, and he almost succeeds.

Billy Corkhill has forgotten about a little electricity job, but it's someone else who is caught red-handed. On Karen's first day at university, her worries turn into outright fear when she meets other students.

Billy's new shutters are causing a bit of a stir. Damon and Rod are determined to outdo each other in their displays of support for different football teams.

Rod plans to impress Heather by washing her car, but then the water supply is cut off. Lucy Collins returns to the Close.

The cleaner meets the daughter, but who has more reason to be suspicious? Heather reflects on becoming a free woman again as her divorce from Roger becomes absolute.

It's Lucy's birthday, but she has disappeared again. Damon and Rod make a bet, and Harry agrees to adjudicate.

Karen goes to a party without telling Bobby and Sheila and does something she later regrets on the way home. Heather is not sure how to answer Tom's proposal.

Sinbad introduces Trevor the Turkey to the residents, most of whom decide that it's slightly too fresh for them. Karen is flattered by the weirdest Guy she knows.

Lucy feels trapped as Annabelle sets a date for James's visit. Billy is asked to work over Christmas. Sheila is surprised that Father Christmas knows so much about Claire. Pat, Sandra, and Terry celebrate early.

At Billy's factory, many of the men are made redundant just before Christmas, and it's time for Bobby to take action. An ex-girlfriend of Barry's turns up and has a few surprises for everyone.

Barry discovers that Jane hasn't kicked her habit and confiscates what he finds. There's trouble between Billy and Bobby at the picket line. Joyce turns up at Heather's in need of somewhere to stay.

Bobby and Sheila learn from Barry that the heroin belongs to Jane. Joyce tells Heather she is setting up in business, and invites Heather to join her.

James has dinner at the Collins', and Annabelle and Paul soon suspect that he has something to hide. Jane receives some good advice, but will she listen?

It's Claire's first birthday. Paul and Annabelle's fears about Lucy have been confirmed. Pat and Sandra discover that Jane has left during the night, taking a few of their things with her.

Barry and Pat have plans to stop a war. Vicki blames Terry for her brothers being beaten up. Paul and Annabelle try to discover where James really works.

Pat defies Terry and takes the law into his own hands with Barry. When Paul discovers something about James, he gives him a week to reveal it to Lucy. Heather is disappointed to discover who her new boss is and what he thinks of her.

Barry is determined to continue sorting out Terry's problems with the Clearys, but he is about to make a big mistake. Billy and Doreen meet with Tracy's headmaster and the teacher involved in the allegations.

Damon and Neil have another cunning plan, but as usual, it's about to backfire. James's attempts to dump Lucy don't have the intended result.

Bobby is bothered by scabs on the Close. Lucy decides to tell her parents that she has stopped seeing James. Sheila wants to adopt, or at least sponsor, a child. Nicholas takes Heather to dinner, but who will end up paying for it?

Lucy and Tracy have exactly the same problem: their parents don't understand them or approve of their actions.

Tracy comes clean about Peter, who wishes she hadn't, when Billy exacts brutal revenge. But James is still keeping Lucy blissfully unaware of a few things.

Harry wonders if he is being disloyal to Edna. Ralph can't make up his mind. Heather's curiosity about Barbara gets the better of her, but she is not at all prepared for what she discovers.

Harry receives nineteen replies to his advert, one of which is from a man. Billy appears in court but refuses to cooperate with his probation officer.

After Harry posts his letter to Madge, he has second thoughts and wants to get it back.

Sandra is offered a promotion, but to the private ward. Bobby receives a letter about a loan taken out in his name. At the art gallery at which Madge is due to meet Harry, she unfortunately isn't the only woman wearing a green coat.

Bobby is jealous of Sheila's tutor when he holds a class in their front room. Sandra is annoyed to find Vicki cooking her steaks in the kitchen. Ralph wants to borrow Harry's car.

Sandra starts her new job, and Sally Dinsdale turns up at the Grants' with a black eye. Karen interviews Paula Yates.

Sandra and Jackie show the pest control man their cockroach-infested rooms. Sheila tries to convince Bobby that he has nothing to worry about.

On Bobby's birthday, Damon gets his cards. Pat pesters Sandra about why she is so irritable, not expecting the answer he gets. A telephone call from Teresa forces Sheila to lie for matty.

Sandra tries to let Pat down gently, but it's almost impossible.

Guy invites Karen to spend the night with him, and she agrees. Ralph sneaks out to see Madge. leaving Harry to spend the bank holiday on his own.

A shop steward draws Bobby's attention to some surprising payslips. Madge pays a visit to the bungalow, and Ralph's planned trip to Torquay with her turns into a foursome.

When Tracy is bored at home, the Corkhills' telephone bill is about to start shooting up. Sheila confronts Mo, who tells her that Matty is leaving Teresa to marry her.

George tries to convince Bobby to take the "long view". Heather and Keith return from Aberdeen. Sally Dinsdale turns up again, and this time Sheila insists that she stays. Damon gets a new idea about how he might find a job.

Sheila has a frightening secret she doesn't want to worry Bobby with. A visit by Jehovah's Witnesses results in Pat and Terry missing "The Magic Rabbits". Harry, Ralph, Julia and Madge enjoy a holiday in Torquay, while Damon looks for work.

Sheila confides in Alun over the poison-pen letter. Pat and Terry appear to have dropped themselves in it with an unexpected visitor, but is there a solution?

Lucy seems to have got over losing James, as she meets another man; but Paul and Annabelle are not convinced that Barry is a suitable partner for anyone. Bobby is annoyed with Sheila again.

Bobby faces a difficult choice - his job or his men? When Karen gets a nasty telephone call, Sheila explains that it was meant for her. Nick has a confrontation with Keith Tench over Heather, and comes off worse.

Billy and Doreen anxiously go to court, as so much depends on the result of their appeal. Keith Tench is determined to make Heather's life difficult.

Rod and Damon are both convinced that they have won their bet. Petrochem is taken over. Lucy says her goodbyes as she prepares to leave for France with Barry, but she's leaving something behind her. Billy regrets not mentioning something important to Doreen.

Bobby advises Billy to go to his union, but he isn't hopeful. Rod and Damon both try to snatch victory in their programme collecting contest. Heather discovers that Nick's phone has been cut off.

Romance is in the air for Heather. Sheila feels guilty about lying to Teresa. Damon leaves home.

Paul is in for more than one disappointment. Doreen thinks her new acquisition will help out - but disaster is about to strike.

Paul takes his redundancy in his stride, but is dubious about news he receives of Lucy. Doreen is angry with Billy for not returning the bricks, fearing that they might jeopardise his court appeal.

Doreen is reluctant to worry Billy with the phone bill, but he's got a bigger problem to face anyway. Karen is frightened after receiving several phone calls in which no-one speaks to her.

Karen sleeps with Guy, Paul voices his feelings of insecurity, and Madge offers to help Harry learn to drive.

Just as Karen and Guy are happy with their relationship, he has a proposal that would make it permanent. Billy and Doreen discover why the phone bill is so high.

Heather meets Nick's children for the first time, and they're not all impressed with her. Then one of them is involved in an accident...

Billy convinces Doreen that the furniture should be moved upstairs while Rod has a party. Pat is determined to have an argument and eventually finds one. Heather and Nick reconsider whether they should marry if his children don't approve.

Rod decides that he would like to join the police, but Billy isn't impressed with that idea. A romantic kiss leaves Karen in an awkward predicament.

Bobby puts his job on the line by defying George Williams. Annabelle tries to talk Paul out of protesting. Ralph and Harry aren't speaking.

Harry and Ralph misuse a "disabled driver" badge. Paul buys timber to build a lollipop sign, and Sandra denies everything.

Paul's impression of a lollipop man is not appreciated by some of the schoolchildren, who relieve him of his sign, nor by a policeman, who visits him at home. Nick has forgotten something important, so Heather calls on Annabelle for advice.

When Tony arrives, Pat realises that Sandra may not have dropped the Cribbs-Baker case after all. Sheila is nervous about her seminar. Terry tries to find somewhere to go where there isn't a furious row blazing.

Harry finds a photograph that makes him believe his house is being used for immoral purposes. Sheila has even more to worry about.

Pat is shown up by a bottle of perfume. Sheila finally discovers who wrote the threatening letter to her. However, the person responsible wasn't making the phone calls.

Pat and Sandra don't go to Heather and Nick's wedding reception, and things become violent between them. Matty is in for a shock.

Bobby goes to London to face a disciplinary committee. Terry finds out about Vicki's photograph. Cribbs-Baker tries to intimidate Tony and Sandra. Matty accuses Sheila of turning Mo against him, and becomes aggressive.

Ralph finds himself giving Harry a driving lesson, and discovers it's not something he'd like to repeat.

Sally Dinsdale's husband has gone on the rampage, and she is fearful of what he might do. Sheila and Matty argue in the taxi home after class, and she gets out and walks into a horrific ordeal.

Sheila arrives home shaken and dazed, and although she tells Bobby what happened, she doesn't want to involve the police. The police pick up a drunken Pat, who looks like he's been in a fight.

Sheila is persuaded to call the police and discuss the attack, and Pat becomes the prime suspect.

Sheila isn't telling the police everything she knows. Matty tells Bobby who he thinks is the rapist.

Bobby feels that there are things to be cleared up between him and Sheila - but she disagrees.

Nick discovers that Ruth has disobeyed him. Tony has an announcement to make about his future. Matty does nothing to improve his situation with the police

Following their investigation, the police believe they now have enough evidence to make an arrest.

Matty is questioned by the police and encouraged to admit that he is the rapist. Bobby tries to return to work, but is prevented from doing so by George.

A confession convinces the police that they have found the guilty man, while Harry tries to discover the identity of the victim. Billy finds himself locked out, Paul finds himself with a bicycle he can't ride, and Teresa decides there is only one solution for her problems.

At Teresa's funeral, Matty's family blame him for her death. Adam teaches Paul to ride his bicycle. Sandra fails to convince a reporter to cover her story, and Tracy is too fully clothed to interest him either.

Bobby returns to his work, and conflict with George. Harry decides that it is time to raise the rents payable by his tenants.......including Ralph. Karen confides in Sandra that she plans to move in with Guy.

Paul thinks he has found a way of blocking the dangerous road legally, but it leads to him spending time in a police cell and losing his bike. Sheila believes the rape has left her with more than memories.

Sheila has some relieving news, Rod receives his "O" Level results, Doreen holds a clothes party, and Annabelle has her interview.

Annabelle and Paul meet Gordon's friend, but are they right to be optimistic? Charlie is behaving suspiciously. Guy finds accomodation for himself and Karen.

Ruth discovers where Charlie is. Kathleen's aggressiveness could jeopardise the road safety campaign. Terry warns Pat that he could be in trouble if he sees Andrea again.

When Carol discovers that Gordon is gay, she refuses to go on working for Annabelle. Karen and Guy have a row. Heather is back from Hong Kong, and her first visitor is Charlie. Nick throws him out.

When Andrea calls, Terry locks Pat out in the cold with only his pants to keep him warm, and his appeals to Heather for help lead to her discovering that Nick has lied to her. Ruth has tea at the Corkhills', and Paul and Annabelle meet Chris.

While Pat is with Andrea, her husband turns up, and Terry has to distract him. Harry challenges Paul to a race. Sandra is determined that Pat is not going to force her out of the house.

Sandra disapproves when Pat continues to see Andrea. Billy has a narrow escape from a serious accident at work. Harry and Paul's race to Delamere Forest ends in a draw.

Nick and Charlie have a brush with the law. Dr. Hurrell returns to say goodbye to Sandra and stays overnight. After Damon catches them in bed together, Karen and Guy go to view a flat. Damon meets a girl.

Gordon is appearing in a television interview, and Paul and Annabelle try to ensure that none of the neighbours watch it.

Karen tells Sandra she plans to move in with Guy. When Sally comes to stay, Harry wants Ralph to give up his bed. A mix-up by the paper boy causes Billy to discover that Gordon is gay.

Bobby and Sheila go to tea with Guy and Karen, and Bobby ruins everything with one remark. Heather is being tormented by Nick and Charlie's behaviour.

Ruth seems to know more about Nick than Heather does. Gail plans to have sex with Damon in a hotel room, but there's a man in the bath. Sandra leaves the close with Tony.

Terry has a small problem with the rent. Damon has to run to catch Gail. Harry buys a huge teddy, but no one seems interested in knowing why. Ruth is forced to reveal the horrifying truth about Nick to Heather.

Harry insists on helping to select a new flatmate for Pat and Terry.

Nick has some hard choices to make. Sheila tells Damon he can leave her alone in the house, but a salesman calls and unwittingly reminds her of the rape.

Annabelle begins her training to be a magistrate and isn't very successful. Pat wonders why Gill keeps staring at him. When Bobby comes home, he finds that Gail has taken over.

Heather is determined to reform Nick. Annabelle is reluctant to give Damon driving lessons.

Andrea makes it clear that she's only after one thing. Sheila tries to be left alone, and Nick is going to be found out.

Gordon goes for a job interview. Barry takes Sheila shopping. Harry does some scheming.

In his interview, Rod begins to worry about the reputation of the Corkhills. When Sheila finds Gail and Damon coming out of his bedroom, she doesn't believe they were just tidying it. Barry decides it's time to take the law into his own hands.

Pat and Terry win a trip to Barbados. Billy is not keen on Tracy's intention of becoming a model. Nick begs Heather to let him stay with her.

Julian Tyler is determined to find Billy. Pat and Terry collect their tickets for Barbados. Doreen reaches her credit limit. Heather asks Barry's advice.

Gail prepares a meal, but is missing a vital ingredient. When she starts to talk about marriage, Damon starts to panic. Barry makes a prediction.

Things get tight for the Corkhills. Pat and Terry set off for Barbados, and although they believe Mrs McArdle is slightly senile, she secretly conceals a package in a locker at the airport.

Rod takes his police exams. Heather discovers that Nick has been using her cheque book. Pat thinks he's in love. Harry decides to confiscate a hi-fi from his tenants' home, and Paul treats himself to a video camera and recorder.

Tommy McArdle's attempts to chat up Gill are not appreciated. Mrs McArdle gives her minders the slip, and Annabelle is irritated when Paul video-records her in the kitchen.

Sheila discovers why the trial has been postponed, and is annoyed with others for interfering. Paul confronts Barry, believing he is being disloyal to Lucy. Gordon buys a motorbike.

Pat and Terry find out that they have been duped, and that Tommy now requires them to go to Glasgow. Nick reaches rock bottom when the council decide he is a liability. Annabelle has problems with her freezer.

Nick tries to raise money so that he can go into a clinic. Doreen wants rid of Jimmy in case he ruins Rod's chances of joining the police. Annabelle has to ask her neighbors to look after a lot of food - and most of them eat it.

When Annabelle goes round the Close to collect all her food, she discovers there isn't as much as she remembered. Vicki is suspicious of Terry. Harry puts pressure on Sally to move into his house.

After the meal she has served has not been received quite as well as she hoped, Annabelle feels that she must makes enquires about the state of health of her neighbours. Harry blames himself for the loss of his grandchild.

The police bring Heather the news that Nick has been found. Gordon discovers that Chris has gone on a skiing holiday. The Corkhills' television is repossessed, and Annabelle decides to give up the catering business.

Pat receives a letter from Avril. Tracy signs up for a hairdressing job. Tragic news forces Heather to decide about her future.

Annabelle finds her first day in court as a magistrate to be something of an anti-climax. Paul accidentally sets off Heather's burglar alarm. Rod wonders whether he really stands a chance of making it into the police force.

Gordon and Annabelle are not impressed that Paul is gloating because Barry is still expecting Lucy to come home for Christmas. Charlie discovers that Nick is dead. Tracy arrives late at the salon on her first.

Jimmy brings a Christmas present for Billy, but Doreen isn't convinced that he should accept it. Harry observes some suspicious behaviour involving Father Christmas and some hampers.

It's party time on the Close, and Gail is trying her luck with more than just one man. Harry overhears Jack explaining his scam, and turns it to his own advantage. Rod's time alone with Kirsty is interrupted when burglars strike next door.

Guy is distraught because Karen has finished with him and is moving to London. Rod receives potentially useful press coverage. While Doreen confides in Sheila about her financial problems, the electricity at number 10 is disconnected.

To Rod's dismay, Billy just can't keep his hands off the electrics. Gail gate-crashes a party Damon has gone to. Bobby and Barry have a long chat in the pub.

Harry is speechless for once, and it's time for Barry to leave again. Shelley lets Tracy go home early when she claims that her mother is awaiting the results of medical tests.

Damon is hanging around the school gates. Julia's incessant chatter causes Harry to regain the power of speech. Doreen visits Tracy at the salon, and Shelley is surprised that she is looking so well.

Sheila is in need of spiritual sustenance. Billy is offered a job in Tunbridge Wells. Harry confronts Madge about her birthdays.

Sheila is convinced that she needs to go to Rome, while Billy is convinced that he should go to Tunbridge Wells. Eric tries to convince Bobby that Martin's claims about asbestos need not be taken seriously.

After rowing with Doreen while Kirsty is visiting, Billy turns off the electricity again. Bobby has lunch with the industrial relations officer of Billinge's, and becomes more convinced that something funny is going on.

Harry is not pleased that Ralph is going on holiday with Madge, and makes sure everybody knows. Billy returns from the bank with good news, but is not pleased about what he finds at home.

Pat and Terry are both looking for a third tenant, and they both find one. Sheila looks for a job to help her save the money for going to Rome. Billy warns Doreen against over-spending.

Sheila is determined to go to Rome, with or without Bobby. Bobby is certain that the shop steward at Billinge Chemicals is in the management's pocket. Pat and Terry try to cope with the lodger from Hell.

Paul rescues a drowning puppy, and Annabelle allows it into the house only until it can be taken to the RSPCA. Bobby wonders if he has got the wrong end of the stick regarding the asbestos scare.

A disturbing encounter galvanises Bobby into action - after meeting a man with asbestosis, he decides to call in the factory inspectors. Annabelle sets Lucky free, but Paul finds her and brings her back home. Mick's pipe nearly burns the house down.

Ralph and Madge return from their holiday engaged to be married. Bobby is accused of being a member of the Militant Tendency.

There are complaints from around the Close about the Collins' dog. Harry finds out how he can solve the riddle surrounding Madge's birthday.

Annabelle is annoyed when Lucky gets to the paper before she does, and mistakenly believes that Damon is in trouble with the police. Pat loses a lot of money in a card game. Madge has a story to tell about her birthday.

Chinese whispers slur Damon's name, and it isn't long before he is allegedly a hardened criminal. Bobby faces an irate workforce at the factory.

Bobby discovers he has been spied on. Harry successfully impersonates a retired civil servant by putting on a stupid hat.

Madge breaks off her engagement to Ralph, and Harry makes sure he retrieves the ring from her before she disappears.

Mike makes a pass at Doreen. Jamie, who is delivering supplies to the salon, asks Tracy out. Trish and Fran have a business proposition for Pat and Terry.

Terry buys Heather's bed, but then realises he will have a problem getting it home. Harry is keen to buy her answerphone, until he finds out the price. Annabelle and Paul are late for the sale because Paul gets caught in a fence while trying to entice Lucky out of an awkward position.

Harry finally confirms his suspicions, discovering that he has an extra tenant. Chris and Gordon act out a fantasy, with tragic results.

Terry confronts Pat over his neglect of their business. Paul sets out to discover who killed his dog. Mick and Mike make a noisy departure, while Ralph prepares to make a much quieter one.

A pregnant woman arrives looking for Mike. Terry is worried that he will be caught by the DHSS. Doreen witnesses the conditions Billy has been living in, and a series of strange encounters make her wonder what he has been up to.

Julia finds out about Tracy's night out with Jamie and is concerned about how Doreen will react. Thinking he has discovered who killed Lucky, Paul is intent on revenge.

Pat's foolishness causes more work to be lost, and Terry is not pleased. Paul continues to gather evidence and is determined to use it against them, when he should really be reading a letter Gordon has written to him.

Billy returns home unexpectedly. When he discovers what Paul has done, Gordon has a confession to make. Annabelle leaves Paul and Gordon to go to her mother's.

Pat and Terry want the world to know that Paul has been spying for the DHSS, and they place a banner on their roof pointing to his house. Paul and Gordon burn their dinner.

Jimmy makes a suggestion, which might end Billy's bad luck. Sheila's mind is made up, but Margaret may be having second thoughts. Annabelle returns home and takes swift action to have the banner maligning Paul removed. When Tracy gives a young girl the hairstyle she wants, she is sacked.

Doreen decides the time has come to make a shrewd investment; she asks Damon to place a bet on a horse race for her. Billy and Doreen discover Tracy has lost her job. There are new arrivals on the Close.

Damon and Mark use an old clock to extricate themselves from a financial predicament. Doreen goes to the salon to try to convince Shelley to give Tracy her job back.

Bobby feels that too much is expected of him. Damon tries to impress Debbie with his culinary skills, but Mark has been trying to spice things up. Billy puts Doreen's winnings on another "cert."

Bobby and Sheila's holiday in Rome goes from bad to worse, and neither of them can see how to mend things. Billy considers breaking the law to resolve his financial problems, and Doreen meets Jamie for the first time, just as the Corkhills have run out of toilet rolls.

While the Corkhills are at Rod's passing-out parade, Jimmy carries out a spot of burglary. Billy is appalled by the results, and he's not the only one.......

Jonathan is annoyed that Joanne is still hanging around, and Laura is annoyed that she has been trying on all her clothes. Preparing an insurance claim, Paul has to decide how many portable televisions were stolen along with Gordon's suede jacket and electric drill.

Having agreed to do some work for the church, Sheila is taken aback when Father Gibbons brings his laundry round. Mona accuses Paul of attempting to poison her. Billy insists that Jimmy retrieves Annabelle's stolen brooch.

Rod's talk about his police work makes Billy feel uneasy. Pat and Terry finally realise that Harry is serious about selling their house when they find him showing an estate agent round it.

Mona is becoming more and more paranoid about Paul. Laura is becoming disenchanted with the wedding arrangements. Vicky makes a decision which pleases Terry, and at the Grants', Father Gibbons finds he has to take a deckchair instead of a pew.

Doreen's money worries start to affect her work. Paul and Annabelle discover what Mona is doing with her food and why.

A problem with the drains escalates into a full-scale alert on the Close. Mr McGrath warns Damon off Debbie, but Damon is not keen on following his advice.

Jack experiences a certain amount of pain after his hand spends too much time on Vicki's bottom. Harry finds out why his toilet is blocked - but only after he has smashed it.

Mona is concerned that Annabelle and Paul will put her into a home. Terry quickly regrets not listening to Vicki's advice. Jonathan and Laura discover a hole in the road - but not until their car falls into it.

Vicki tells Terry that she is going to leave. The hole in the road claims another victim.......

Billy is furious when the neighbours keep driving over his garden to avoid the hole in the road, and confronts Pat.

Desperation causes Billy to open up his loft, then he finds that he needs to keep Rod at the door. Damon is offered a job, but can he keep a straight face?

Doreen is looking for a shoulder to cry on, and her boss has one available.......

The Corkhills have to face repossession, but Mr Howman has an offer of help with easy repayments by Doreen. Pat blackmails his way into the band.

Doreen still hasn't told Billy about the mortgage, and Mr Howman's offer begins to look appealing. Harry carries out a geological survey with a coat-hanger. Pat makes his debut with the band.

Laura buys a painting that really has "something", but Jonathan thinks it's incurable. Tracy and Jamie have a slight accident with Rod's shirt. When Doreen tells Billy what she nearly did with Mr Howman in a hotel room, everyone else's front gardens end up suffering.......

Harry tries to discover where Ralph is going. Mona is due out of hospital, and Paul resents her impending return. Laura convinces Jonathan to have an AIDS test, while Damon has doors shut in his face at every opportunity.

Billy decides that more criminal action is called for. Mona gives Gordon a family heirloom to pass on to his girlfriend.

Harry learns where Ralph has been, and becomes confused. Debbie thinks Damon is going to chuch her. Laura has news about her deportation case.

Mona discovers the truth about Chris. Tracy and Rod find out how desperate the Corkhills' situation is.

Jonathan starts to have doubts about Laura. Against Harry's better advice, Ralph invites a medium to visit the Close. Damon tries to finish with Debbie, but she wins him back with an ice-cream.

Jonathan feels that it is time to make Laura choose. Bobby and Paul each have their own interpretations of Edna's message from beyond the grave, but are Harry and Ralph going to place a winning bet?

Laura's parents are not too happy when they hear Laura's decision about the wedding. Gordon is annoyed when Chris offers to rent Mona's home to Ralph.

Sheila takes a turn for the worse, Gordon tackles Chris about rent money. Laura becomes a compulsive liar.

There's trouble for Chris when Paul and Annabelle find out where Ralph has been staying in the Lake District. There's a surprise in the post for Pat on his 28th birthday.

Jonathan and Laura's first wedding guest arrives, not having received the message about its postponement. Rod is desperate to make a first arrest, but it turns out to be a real anti-climax.

Someone forgets to pick up rings from the jewellers, while all the evidence seems to be supporting the view that Alison is on the game.......

A window opens for Damon, but will it shut the door on his relationship with Debbie?

Now that Laura and Jonathan's big problems are behind them, the little things like cork tiles are getting them down. Damon has to decide whether to look a gift McGrath in the mouth.

The marquee arrives, and it looks as if someone hasn't been very accurate regarding the measurements, or in which garden it is to be installed.......

Surprisingly enough, the mix of their song on the demo tape causes the girls in the band to resent Pat. Billy is offered a job, but it's not the sort of job he can tell Doreen or Rod about.......

Laura has bad news. Terry decides it's time to call a halt to Pat's behaviour. Bobby extends the hand of friendship, although he knows Sheila is unlikely to co-operate with the promise he makes.

Laura reassures Jonathan that she does want to marry him, as they have a joint mortgage, but he's still not convinced that it will go ahead. Billy receives some instructions, and Ellie and Trish drop Pat and Fran from the band.

With only a few hours to go until the wedding, Laura disappears. Meanwhile, Billy prepares for the robbery, and needs to establish a good alibi.......

The robbery attempt goes disastrously wrong for Billy. Bobby finally plucks up the courage to tell Sheila what he has done.

Bobby and Sheila have a tense lunch with Stan and Mrs Higgins. Billy tried to find out the condition of the stabbed supermarket manager. When Harry finds his tomatoes all over the Close, he decides to set up an action group. There is not much harmony among the members of the band.

Harry wants to show potential housebuyer Alison what a quiet close she would be moving to, but Tracy returns home in tears after being attacked, and Mona starts throwing crockery out of the bedroom window, accusing Paul and Annabelle of attempted murder.

Harry's meeting is not very well attended. Gene comes to the Close to confront Billy and threaten Tracy. Paul and Annabelle are disappointed when Mona's doctor refuses to sign her committal forms.

Both factions of the band plan to dump the other after the gig. Tracy sees Billy in town talking to the man who attacked her. Paul finds it hard to keep the pace when he unexpectedly meets someone else who is training for the Marathon.

Paul and Annabelle receive an unexpected visit from a social worker. Pat leave the Close for Dubai, but not before double-crossing Harry.

The honeymooners return, and Jonathan finds out that Laura has been applying for a new job. Harry places a bet on the results of the Mersey Marathon. Mona decides to change her will to leave her home to Gordon.

Both Jonathan and Harry take the credit when there is a flurry of activity around the hole in the Close. Laura has second thoughts about her job offer, but so does Jonathan. Harry is determined to sell his house, but is unaware that there is a conspiracy against him.

Gene spills the wrong beans when he is arrested. Mona sees more than she bargained for when she turns up unexpectedly at Harry's, and reports him to the police for indecent exposure and possession of chocolate. Ralph fails to heed Paul's warnings about the dangers of trowels.

Annabelle draws the line at Paul's ideas about repelling ants. Doreen decides to leave Billy. Laura tells Jonathan where he can stick his new CD system.

Harry decides that he and Ralph should prepare their wills, leading Ralph to wonder of he has any living relatives. Mona readily accepts Gordon's suggested solution to Paul and Annabelle's problems. Billy is convinced that he is about to be arrested, but he gets a bigger shock when he goes into Tracy's bedroom.

Annabelle is concerned when she can't get any answer when ringing Kendal. Doreen is concerned when Billy is taken away for questioning by the police. Sinbad's roof-tiling money-making scheme is not one of his greatest successes.

Rod is sent home while Billy is questioned, and Doreen's panic increases when she hears that there is to be an identity parade. Harry cannot agree with Alison on what is to happen to his furniture. Ralph discovers that his advert is open to misinterpretation.

Billy cannot understand why Riordan failed to recognise him at the identity parade. Jonathan attempts to demonstrate his barbecuing skills. Paul brings Mona back from Kendal, but it is clear that she still needs help.

Laura takes her ring off, but when she goes to put it back on she can't find it. Jamie needs somewhere to stay, but discovers that Julia is looking after Rod and Tracy.

Ralph decides to go to the cemetery in search of clues about his ancestors. Julia is not amused when she finds out that Jamie has been staying in the Corkhills' garage, Laura spends the whole day searching for her ring.

There is a happy reunion for Damon and Debbie, but there have been one or two changes while they have been apart. Ralph tries to find out who is putting flowers on Jean's grave.

Damon puts his foot in it in a big way with Debbie. Ralph finds himself following a treasure hunt.

Annabelle is not convinced that Paul should be running the Mersey Marathon, or that he should be allowing Matty to use their shower. It's Laura's 24th birthday, but she is totally unprepared for the shock which awaits her.......

Damon wants Debbie to come and stay, but Bobby and Sheila have other ideas. Paul and Annabelle hear that someone they know has died. Jonathan is not prepared for what he finds when he returns home to look for Laura.

Billy discovers that he is going to have to pay a price for his freedom. Paul runs the Marathon, but will he finish it?

Geoff becomes less optimistic about Laura's chances of recovery, and tries to find out how the accident could have happened. Annabelle is concerned by Paul's twinges before and during the Marathon, but Matty reassures her. Doreen pleads with Billy not to go along with Riordan's plan. Damon and Debbie leave, and Sheila feels that she and Bobby have let them down.

Barry tries to convince both his new girlfriend Ursula and Terry that he has turned over a new leaf and branched out into the tree business, but then he has to made a quick getaway minus his underpants from the home of a gangster with a sh-sh-sh-shotgun.

Sizzler turns up on the Close in search of his missing bathrobe. Jonathan receives bad news about Laura. Billy has to choose between Doreen and Riordan.

Sinbad makes a series of bad moves, and there is bad news for Terry. Harry is offered the post of Part Time Joint Membership Co-ordinator of the Commonwealth and Empire Club, whose responsibilities sound suspiciously similar to those of a doorman.......

Bobby is concerned when Barry gets Sheila a video recorder, and annoyed when he finds out why. Terry moves in with Jonathan, who helps him to reach an amicable settlement with Harry. Billy and Jimmy confront Riordan, and Sizzler outlines his community s-s-s-service requirements.

Barry puts two and two together, and Jonathan discovers what - and who - caused Laura's accident. Doreen has to decide whether she will go back to Billy. Now that Harry is the Commonwealth and Empire Club doorman, Ralph has no chance of meeting the entrance requirements.

Laura's parents are concerned to find that Terry has moved in with Jonathan, and refuse to prepare for the worst. Billy's hopes of a reconciliation with Doreen are dashed. Ralph finally gains entry to the Commonwealth and Empire Club, only to discover that he isn't actually allowed to do anything there.......

Harry is still taking his role at the Commonwealth and Empire Club seriously. Barry and Sinbad return some stolen property. Bobby and Sheila prepare for a night out, unaware that some terrible news is about to be brought to them......

Bobby and Sheila go to identify Damon's body, leaving Billy to break the news to Barry. Sheila blames herself, while Bobby blames Debbie....... A visitor to Jonathan's makes Terry wonder what the new year will bring.

Damon's body is brought home, and Sheila prepares for an all-night vigil. There are other unexpected arrivals.

At Damon's final farewell, Barry decides to set the record straight. New residents arrive on the Close.

Harry makes an effort to be nice to his new tenants, the Rogers family, but starts to regret it. Rod becomes romantic with Kirsty. Paul and Annabelle agree to let Chris stay with them for a while.

Harry finds that he has to seek reassurances that his new tenants have no mad dogs, pet snakes or grass growing in their living room. Paul and Sammy are both aware that "Growler" is playing truant, but will either of them tell his parents?

Terry is full of Christmas cheer, until he is stranded with nowhere to go. Billy receives a letter from Doreen.

Sitting in for his father as Santa, Terry decides to try to impress Sue by leaving the present she asks for at her office, but she thinks she is being stalked and gets Jonathan to lodge a complaint with the store. As Christmas approaches, Billy hopes that his luck is changing.

The Grants are about to go away for Christmas, but something is holding them back. Gordon makes a confession, and so does Terry. When Chrissy asks Frank to invite a couple of the neighbours for a drink on her behalf, the ones that arrive aren't who she is expecting..

Laura's parents disapprove of Jonathan's plans for Christmas and the future. There is conflict in the Rogers household on Christmas Day, while the Collins family find Mona's allegations difficult to believe.

Sammy is left in charge when Frank and Chrissy go out to celebrate New Year, but her idea of fun isn't exactly safe. Terry plans a romantic New Year, but the best-laid plans.......

Billy is on the spot when Tracy wants to know all about Doreen and his involvement in crime. When Jamie needs money, he finds a surprisingly easy way of earning it on the Close. A household loses two of its members.

Bobby appears in court on the drink-driving charge, and is fined £150. He and Barry go for a drink together, and forget to bring something home....... Annabelle receives another strange letter from her mother.

Chrissy confronts Sammy's headmistress, and is determined to make Frank's company keep to their word. The Corkhills' becomes a haven for waifs and strays.

Gordon makes an unexpected return to the Close - in an ambulance. Jamie is a victim of Rod's dedication to his police work, and when Jimmy is left to handle the food supply at number 10, it's best not to question where it came from.

All of a sudden, both Paul and Annabelle are keen to visit Mona. Harry realises that he has to take action now that there is a vacant committee post.

Jimmy's mistress, Kathy, arrives at the Corkhills'. Harry and Ralph are both urgently seeking sponsors. Paul refuses to ring Chris on Gordon's behalf.

Mr McGrath brings news about Debbie to the Grants, and ends up being thrown out of the house. Chris is amused to find Gordon looking like something out of "Doctor Who". Mona turns up late at night, claiming that she is being beaten at the home.

Harry employs below-the-belt tactics in his bid to be elected to the committee after his sponsor realises he has been conned. Jamie tries to convince Billy to allow him to move in indefinitely.

There is an unexpected setback for Harry during his inaugural anti-women speech at the Commonwealth and Empire Club. Mona is in a bad way. Jimmy has an ingenious solution to the Corkhills' overcrowding problem.

Bobby has bad news for Sheila. Ralph decides to build a model of the Close. Jamie is woken up by the sound of holes being drilled all around him.

Bobby throws some hurtful allegations at Sheila, and they both seek solace in their own way. Terry makes a rash decision when he hears of Sue's resignation. Tracy and Jamie move out.

Ralph's entertainment for Commonwealth Day at the Commonwealth and Empire Club doesn't quite fit the bill, but there's somebody around to save the day.

Betty has an issue that she wants Harry to bring up at his first committee meeting. Terry is dubious about Barry's latest proposition. Chris and Gordon kidnap Mona.

Terry makes a friend on holiday, while Jonathan finds it harder to cope. Paul receives unexpected assistance in his investigation of the care home. Billy discovers that Tracy has gone to London.

Barry is caught in the act, and Sheila tears a strip off Billy. Terry finds that ice-skating is just as difficult as skiing, and while he and Donna watch a dancing display, Jonathan and Cheryl play backgammon. Jamie comes back from London without Tracy.

Rod goes to London to search for Tracy. Donna drops a bombshell. Billy wonders whether his children would prefer to be with their mother. There's a surprise awaiting Kathy when she goes out looking for a fight.

The trail for Tracy goes dead for Rod and Jamie. Billy discovers he can't even count on Jimmy to be dishonest. Chrissy wonders where Growler got his football.

Rod returns from London, but his news isn't good. Bobby receives a tip-off about the effects of automation. Sue's nose is out of joint when she finds out how popular Terry is with the ladies.

Barry and Sinbad show Cheryl and Donna the sights of Liverpool. Tracy returns from London, and Billy is all set to have a go at her. Frank gets a shock when he discovers he has lost something.

Following the theft of Frank's articulated lorry, he is interrogated by the police and his home is thoroughly searched. Growler fears that the stolen football will be found.

Frank's story is not believed, Sheila seeks spiritual guidance, Bobby agrees to contribute his wages to the strike fund, and Barry receives a tip-off about his trees. Tracy tries to persuade Kathy to stay even though Jimmy has dumped her to go back to his wife.

Bobby has a big decision to make as a strike seems possible at a factory. Sheila visits a marriage guidance counsellor.

Things look bad for Frank as he faces a discliplinary hearing. There are revelations in the post for Bobby, an awkward customer for Sinbad, and an unexpected question for Sue.......about wallpaper.

Both Bobby and Sheila realise that they have been somewhat economical with the truth. Terry delegates the choice of Jonathan's wallpaper to Sue, and the decorating itself to Sinbad.......

The solidarity of the Close sees off the queer-bashers, but there's a price to pay. Jonathan reveals to Sarah that his next destination is not Liverpool.......

Rod becomes involved in an allegation of police brutality. When the Corkhills don't confer with Jamie on what to get Tracy for her birthday, the results are obvious. Annabelle is surprised to discover who Paul has asked to remove the car, but there's a bigger shock for Jonathan in Vancouver.

Sheila leaves the Close, declining a farewell drink with Kathy. Sizzler has a job for Barry to do in return for the tape. It is Tracy's 18th birthday, but there is no card from Doreen.

All Jamie's endeavours at the Job Club come to nothing. Annabelle refuses to go out with Paul because she has other plans. Jonathan is put in a difficult position, in more ways than one.

It's rehearsal time for Cheryl's wedding, but there is a surprise in store for her. Chrissy blames Growler for leaving the bath in a mess - until the true culprit arrives, wanting to use it again.......

Sizzler has another job for Barry, but this one involves something gruesome. Annabelle has some secret plans for a weekend away. There are a few problems for the Rogers family on the first day of term.

Barry has to decide whether to follow Sizzler's instructions and kill Ma Johnson's dog. Frank decides that it is time to take some direct action, as Growler has been bunking off again. Jonathan unwisely offers to shake hands with Deburau while standing on the riverside.

Paul is surprised when Annabelle insists on going to her conference. Barry tries to make Ma Johnson see sense. Harry aims to maximise his chances of a committee victory, and a house on the Close is broken into.

Annabelle's liaisons with Brian don't go entirely unnoticed. Sammy and Growler both have medical appointments, Jonathan is reunited with Cheryl, and Barry and Penny are appalled when they finally get to see Sizzler's tape.

Sheila returns to the Close and finds Barry trying to recover from his break-up with Penny. The second part of Operation Hickory doesn't go as planned for Rod.

Frank has a series of confrontations, some more successful than others. Harry has a decision to make, and knows who he has to consult first. Cheryl has her interview, but is too nervous to tell Jonathan.

Harry's romantic tea with Betty is interrupted by an unwelcome guest. Kathy visits Sheila, and can't believe what she finds.

Harry has an offer on the house, and Sammy starts her new job. Tracy's work situation doesn't get any better, but there's a comforting arm close at hand.

Cheryl settles into her new home, but Sue is worried about Terry's feelings. The contracts are exchanged on the Grants' house, leaving Barry homeless.

As Jonathan is about to head out for a night on the town with Cheryl, he drops his car keys down a drain. There is a birthday surprise for Billy.

Sheila insists on paying for her keep, but for Billy there's no smoke without fire. Frank tries to find somewhere to hide a bicycle, while Rod's forgetfulness could have serious repercussions.......

Rod's sergeant initiates a search for the purse that was handed in, so he needs to decide whether to confess. Gerrard is making life difficult for Tracy, and there is some devastating news for Chrissy and Frank.

Ralph employs undercover tactics to find out what Chrissy is up to. When Jimmy has an accident while cleaning the Collins' windows, he needs to lay his hands on a bathroom suite at short notice.......

Frank decides that he is not going to stand for the post of shop steward, despite the protests. Barry turns the water back on at the Grants', with disastrous consequences.

Paul becomes suspicious as to Annabelle's whereabouts and quizzes her when she returns. Kathy, meanwhile, wants to know where Linda is.

Jimmy has to extricate himself from the Grants', while Tracy is persuaded to meet up with Gerrard. Annabelle finds that she will have to go on her weekend away with Paul instead of Brian, whose carelessness results in Sheila discovering her affair.

Katie finds out that in the nativity play she will be playing a sheaf of corn instead of the Virgin Mary. Frank decides that it is time for new tactics over the toilets, and blocks them. Terry proposes to Sue.

Gordon is worried about his health as he begins to show the early warning symptoms of AIDS. Sheila discovers that Bobby has gone to Poland, and worries about her financial situation.

Tracy is bonding with Nikki as a result of their mutual hatred of Gerrard. Sheila is bonding with Billy over money, but Kathy is stood up on a dinner date when he gets a better offer.

Gordon receives good news and resolves to turn over a new leaf. Kathy hopes that a new dress will help to lure Billy away from Linda.

Rod faces a police enquiry, Kathy adopts a new ploy to win Billy, Gordon reads a disturbing rumour on his first day at work, and no-one mentions the war.

Sue has to explain her reaction to Martin, and Terry doesn't find her explanation entirely convincing. Sheila has to face the anniversary of Damon's death alone.

Gordon confronts Brian over what he is up to with Annabelle, and is surprised by his reaction. Kathy enlists Julia's help to get rid of Linda.

Kathy and Julia's cunning plans turns out not to be cunning enough. Gerrard returns from his holiday, determined to convince Tracy to go out with him. Katie is upset because Growler makes her believe she was adopted.

Harry is expecting a family of Arabian brain surgeons to move into his house, but is about to be disappointed. Julia is causing conflict.

The furniture is getting on top of Harry, and Gerrard is getting Tracy down. Terry looks for a partnership, while Sheila looks for somewhere else to live.

Brian thinks that Gordon lacks motivation. As they await Doreen's return, Billy and Rod argue. Tracy confides in Sheila, and Terry receives an offer.

Barry and Sinbad enter a Christmas venture together, but it gets off to a slow start. Billy receives a card and a note from Doreen. Sheila and Julia argue.

Terry sees something disturbing at a wine-bar, and Tracy gets the sack. Paul discovers Brian's Christmas present to Annabelle. When Ralph receives some bad news, Barry and Sinbad need to act quickly.

It is a rowdy Christmas Day at the Corkhills', and there is a surprise arrival. Chrissy has a theory about Growler's problem, while Frank is called into work. Sue tries to convince Terry that he was mistaken, and Paul confronts Annabelle and Brian about their affair.

As Christmas Day continues, Billy dishes out the rosaries, and makes a major admission about Doreen. Sinbad and Barry are breaking and entering, while Paul is a broken man.

Tracy seeks help from the Citizens Advice Bureau, while Sheila consults a priest. Gordon tries to help reconcile Paul and Annabelle. A dramatic rescue is required, and Terry is the hero.

Jonathan wants to pay his dues, and Sheila is saying her goodbyes, as Sinbad and Barry continue to hunt for the missing seals.

It's New Year on the Close, and a particularly subdued one for the Collins'. Sinbad has something for Ralph, and Barry's scheming causes Kirsty and Rod to be apart as 1989 arrives.

Tracy is grilled by her lawyer. Gordon plans to leave Brian's employment, but is persuaded to stay on. The workforce want Frank to call a strike, and Paul forbids Annabelle to use his car.

Sammy is confronted by a young man bringing something from Ronnie. Tired of talking about his upcoming wedding, Rod seeks comfort elsewhere. Sue discovers she is pregnant.

Owen comes clean about his true motives, and Sammy is suitably intrigued. Cheryl tries to help Sue with a major dilemma. An educational welfare officer arrives to check on Chrissy's teaching of Growler at home, but Growler has gone AWOL.

Gerrard resorts to a variety of tricks to try to persuade Tracy to drop her case against him, and Rod is annoyed to find out about it from a newspaper. More than one member of the Rogers family is convinced that they are going to look foolish.

It is Growler's first day back at school, and Chrissy is depressed about her future. Rod and Tommo have conflicting views on the article about Tracy. Sue goes to have an abortion, but changes her mind.

Gordon is determined to prove that he is not a loser, and stakes everything on a winner. Cheryl discovers Sue with her head in the oven. Frank tries to reassure Growler that he is still proud of him.

Gordon finds himself the worse for wear, and well out of pocket. Sue tells Terry that she is pregnant, but misses out one small detail. Unexpected revelations have a major effect on the final outcome of Tracy's industrial tribunal.

Mona is feeling paranoid, and says some cruel and insensitive things. Sammy pushes things too far by staying out too late. The mystery of the missing money is solved, but it creates tension between Jonathan, Cheryl and Sarah.

Katie goes missing with the new girl on the Close. Harry decides he needs to have a high fence built to protect him, but soon changes his mind.

The Collins' barbecue causes animosity, as Ralph loses part of his fence. Frank makes a discovery which dampens Chrissy's spirits.

Michael and Caroline disagree on priorities, while Kirsty's surprise appearance on the coach to Blackpool turns the trip into a nightmare for all concerned.

Cheryl suspects that Jonathan is avoiding looking for a new flat and believes he is taking her for granted. Caroline asks Chrissy to look after Jessica, but this leads to an almighty row.

Kirsty decides that she's had enough of Rod, and announces it in style. Preparations are underway for the summer fayre. Katie has romantic intentions towards Bumper, and Anthony tries to assure Tracy that not all bosses are the same.

Jonathan doesn't approve of Coral's accent. Tracy takes part in a hairdressing competition. There is a willing volunteer to retrieve Bumper's football when he knocks over Cheryl's glass.

Sue and Terry discuss names for the baby, and Terry is convinced that he knows one that would be perfect. After her moment of glory, Tracy returns to the Close. Cheryl is at the end of her tether.

For Sinbad, to be nearly hit by one lawyer's car seems unlucky, but when he is nearly hit by two of them it begins to look like carelessness. Then his day brightens up when a naked lady steps out of the shower while he is cleaning her windows.

Terry and Sue's wedding day arrives, and Sheila returns, forcing Billy to make a final decision as to which woman he wants.

Doreen changes all the locks. Another visitor arrives at the Collins', but Paul finds the solution in a book of raffle tickets.

Harry is not well, and an unexpected arrival doesn't improve his mood.

Louise stumbles across some of Annabelle's private things. Tracy disagrees with Julia about what Doreen should do. Harry is irritated by the amount of time Lana is spending on his telephone.

Stephen quizzes Caroline about how Michael got on with Amy. Chrissy wants Frank to call a proper builder rather than let Lenny attempt to put right the damage he caused. Sheila tries to convince Billy that he shouldn't dwell on the past.

When Louise gives her a clue, Annabelle arrives at a dreadful realisation. Katie tries her hand at bereavement therapy, but isn't very successful. Sue gives birth to a baby boy.

Louise wants to speak about what her brother has done, but is frightened of the consequences. Chrissy has some ingenious ideas about where she can find some money. Harry reacts strangely when Mick plans to leave.

Jessica walks in on Michael and Alison. There is trouble for Paul when he finds Louise is still at the house, and for Sammy when Owen sees her holiday photos.

Rod finds his CID work rather dull, Frank receives the bill for the clearance of his dry rot, and Ralph proposes to Lana.

Rod and Tommo discover that it's not a good idea to talk about the woman they have shared while on a stake-out. Paul is annoyed to find that Louise has used all his staples, and takes drastic action.

Stephen is convinced that Michael should be looking for a Chinese wife instead of going out with Alison. Rod and Kirsty consider whether they can really be "just good friends".

Lana plans a honeymoon in the West Indies, but Ralph is terrified of flying. Michael reveals that he may be able to move to the USA with Alison. Sammy and Owen plan a trip to Wigan, but their journey has tragic consequences.

Sammy and Owen are in a critical condition after the car crash, and the bad news has to be broken to Frank and Chrissy. Harry overhears something he wishes he hadn't. Paul discovers that Louise has run away to Kendal.

Lana and Ralph prepare to leave, but there's a huge rift which looks as if it will not be healed. Sammy waits by Owen's bedside, but there appears to be no hope.

Lenny encourages Frank to join a group of workers tendering for the maintenance contract. Paul is even more uncertain about Louise. Chrissy notices that Katie is stealing money, and is keen to find out why.

Chrissy is worried that Frank may become too involved with Lenny's tender. Sheila has a job interview at the school for the deaf. Gordon confirms Judith's suspicions about the quality of a new wine.

There is friction in the Rogers home, as Sammy doesn't want to go to see Owen. Gary tries to turn Louise against Annabelle. Gordon investigates the bottling plant.

Paul decides to go to the Lake District for a few days. Sheila wants to get a part-time job at the pub, but Billy isn't keen. Judith is scared she will lose her job, and Katie is seen giving in to temptation.

Jimmy adopts a few strong-arm tactics to prove that Billy is being too soft on Mr Trevor. Michael doesn't like the idea of freebies for favours. Paul tells Louise that Annabelle is going to stay with Lucy in France, which only makes her feel worse. Katie feels that everyone is against her.

Billy finds that all the doors of his car have been removed. Growler and Bumper take matters into their own hands to try to help Katie, and blame Sammy when things go wrong. Caroline has an unexpected visitor bringing lights and a boomerang.

Kathy tries to convince Sean to turn himself in, while Sheila consults Paul for advice. Harry's meeting is not very well attended, and Frank is offered the job of Assistant Transport Manager.

Kathy tells Sheila more about Sean's experiences in Northern Ireland, which makes her more annoyed that he is staying at the Corkhills'. Chrissy discovers that Sammy's schoolwork has been poor lately.

When Paul arranges a meal at the Town Hall, Harry thinks the other residents are cutting him out. Stephen has a surprising proposition for Michael. Sheila receives her exam results, but Billy doesn't think there is much to celebrate.

There's good news and bad news for Mick and Terry regarding the sale of Ray's taxi. Meeting Kav's mother before the inquest creates divided loyalties among the girls, but, when giving their evidence, one of them tells the truth.

Sue has had all that she can take of her mother's interference. Sean reacts viciously when he finds out that Kathy has turned him in to the police. Michael has to tell Jessica that he isn't taking her to Hong Kong, and Sammy suffers the backlash of her actions at the inquest.

Alison is annoyed with Michael. Jimmy and Sinbad plan to install a satellite dish for Billy, and one of the other residents complains to the council.......but who is it?

Sammy arrives home drunk again, and Chrissy realises that they must seek help. Mick discovers why Harry was so keen for him to move back in. There is an unwelcome visitor for Sheila, while another visitor causes Jimmy and Sinbad to take some hasty action.......

James returns from Amsterdam with news of who has been cheating Caroline. Unable to find a baby minder, Sue takes Daniel to work with her. When Sammy refuses to go to the doctor, Chrissy takes her place. The planning inspector returns to the Corkhills', and both parties get a surprise.

Sammy's drinking problem is getting worse. Harry tries to avoid buying a new suitcase.

Billy receives his decree nisi. Sammy lashes out at Owen, and he can't even walk out on her. The identity of the "grass" is revealed.......or is it?

Harry draws up a list of do's and don't's in preparation for the arrival of Mick's children, Viv thinks she knows what Guy is up to, and Caroline is frustrated in her efforts to investigate the forged jewellery.

Chrissy visits Dr O'Rourke again. Viv takes further action to try to extricate Jonathan from his predicament. Harry leaves for America.

- Caroline gets a letter from James which makes her decide to move away from Liverpool. Sue has plans to make a baby with Terry, but Mick offers him the night shift. Leo and Gemma are desperate to find Monty, and a big white rabbit also seems to be on the loose.

- Billy's final divorce papers come through, but Sheila is storming off to the Easter vigil. Monty is still missing, a kitten is caught in the trap, and the rabbit's in a flap.......

Billy's car breaks down. Tracy has an over-eager customer at the hair salon, which doesn't impress Barry. Jonathan hears that Sarah wants to dissolve their partnership.

Monty has still not been found, and the kitten is causing problems for Mick. Chrissy and Joe have a romantic moment. Scare tactics are employed against the Giesling representative. Caroline prepares to leave the Close for a new job in London.

Chrissy is fretting about how she will explain the next phone call. Alison and Hattie move in with Michael, but some ground rules need to be established. Sheila and Billy reach crisis point. Jonathan makes Terry an offer, but Terry isn't impressed.

Annabelle returns from France, but she isn't alone. Owen has to go to a party alone. as Sammy fears that she might end up drinking again. Sinbad provides a shoulder to cry on, and gets a bargain banquet.......or does he?

Harry rings with the news that he is coming home early, so time is running out for Mick. Terry convinces him to raise money by hiring out Harry's car. Growler and Bumper are up to no good on the Close.

Liam is following Tracy, so a suspicious Barry is following Liam. Growler and Bumper's plans are foiled when Michael finds them some useful work to do.

Michael has doubts about whether he should be leaving the NHS. Louise ruins Lucy's favourite jumper, then proceeds to cause much greater damage.

Terry tries to prove that he's no dummy, but finds that one of his passengers has no way of paying him. Mick tries to train Monty to recognise Harry when he returns. Louise is caught shoplifting, forcing the Collins family to make a major decision.

Harry thinks he must be seeing things when there seems to be a gnome in his bed, and he doesn't get as friendly a welcome from his dog as he hoped. The Chois leave the Close.

Lucy is not willing to forgive or forget, Sue behaves strangely at the Chois' party, Harry returns from America, and Sinbad tries to collect his window money.

Jimmy is in hot water again when the police are called in and he is found sneaking around. Terry's nose is put out of joint by Jonathan's arrival, and Barry is even more put out. Liam visits Tracy again, and gets more than he bargained for.

Mick thinks he might be over the worst of his troubles, but then a series of parking tickets start to arrive. Liam threatens to commit suicide for Tracy, and she is afraid he will go through with it.

Chrissy asks Sinbad to make himself scarce as she has potential housebuyers visiting, so he decides to make things a little unpleasant for them.

Josie appears on the Close, turning Mick's life upside down. Sheila finds out about the insurance swindle Billy pulled off in the past, and is not amused.

Sheila has to consider how she would feel about the prospect of another grandchild. Lucy has her eye on Jonathan, while someone else has their eye on Gordon.

Sammy needs a drink, while Sinbad nurses a serious hangover. Lucy is winding up Gordon, while someone is digging for dirt on Tracy.

Judith offers Gordon a key to her flat, with no strings attached. Paul is annoyed about the barbecue party going on in the garden next door.

Katie goes green, and Sinbad is relieved of his responsibilities. Billy and Barry are still at loggerheads, but join forces to look for Tracy.

Frank confesses to Chrissy that he has left the co-operative. Tracy returns home, but Billy and Jimmy are more concerned about Joey Godden.

Sheila is horrified to discover that Tracy plans to have an abortion, but Billy refuses to talk her out of it, and even Kathy seems to sympathise. The Rogers family need to start economising.

As he prepares to leave the Close for good after nearly eight years, Paul hears that the sports pitch sponsors have pulled out. However, Jonathan believes that fighting against the shops is a lost cause.

Tracy tells Sheila and Billy that she has had an abortion, and when Barry finds out, he blames Billy. Frank brings some boxes of old photographs and memorabilia down from the loft, Terry gets his sperm test results, and Joey Godden is confronted.

Terry confronts Sue about the identity of Daniel's real father. Frank's father's gravestone has been vandalised. Jimmy is getting all tooled up.

Barry finds himself outnumbered when he tries to retrieve his gear from the shop. Jimmy is missing, and Sheila feels that Billy should be doing more to protect him. Terry burns Sue's belongings.

Jonathan returns from London, and wishes he hadn't when Barry assumes he is the real father of Danny and punches him.

Sheila is torn between her loyalties to Barry and Billy, and needs to decide whether the wedding is on or off. Josie is going on jury service.

Katie is sick, Leo is nearly run over, Max measures up, and Barry borrows a chainsaw.

Dr O'Rourke comes to see Katie, and suggests to Frank that Chrissy could become his part-time receptionist. Sue tries to persuade Terry not to divorce her. Barry gains access to the shop.

Terry promises to keep Sheila's secret, and Mick tries to encourage him to go back to work. Sinbad returns from London and finds a shortage of loyal customers. Frank and Chrissy wait by Katie's hospital bedside.

Sue is desperate with worry about Daniel's disappearance, and Sheila tries to reassure her, but Barry only makes her more scared. Sinbad considers a new career as an odd job man.

Terry takes Daniel back to Sue, but threatens to snatch him back in the future. Sheila is haunted by an old ghost, Chrissy is made redundant, and Sinbad attempts to mow Billy's lawn, but breaks the lawnmower.

Sheila tells Billy a secret she has kept for a very long time. Owen tells Sammy he doesn't want her to go to Blackpool.

Frank twangs his guitar, dreaming of stardom, but Chrissy just wants to be able to pay the bills. Sinbad hits rock bottom.

There's a shock for Nisha and Sammy, as the barbecue turns ugly. Frank has a run of bad luck.

There are strange noises coming from the garage, but is Terry brave enough to investigate? Pete and Nisha are both planning to break up with the other, but who is going to do it first?

Chrissy's temporary job turns out to be very embarrassing. Sheila chooses her wedding dress. Sinbad is feeling sorry for himself, and Nisha is disappointed that Sammy has been talking about her behind her back.

Jimmy continues to make preparations for the wedding, making Billy wonder if Sheila will really have the kind of day that she wants. Chrissy is cheesed off.

As the trip to Blackpool draws near, Owen begins to worry that temptation will prove too much for Sammy. Jimmy hides the wreath, and assures Kathy that the wedding preparations are still progressing well.

Sheila and Billy's wedding day arrives, but there is still the possibility of some last-minute hitches.......

Sheila is not willing to wait much longer for Billy to arrive for their wedding - will he make it on time or not?

Sue confronts Terry after receiving a letter from his solicitor. Frank tries to get himself a job. Josie arrives to stay with Mick.

There are fears of chemical pollution near the close, and Frank decides to investigate.

Josie drops a bombshell. Frank proves that keeping fit isn't always good for one's health. Terry and Jonathan reflect on the past.

Sinbad offers advice on decorating to Mick. Frank tries to prepare himself for an interview, but his nerves seem to be getting the better of him.

Billy tries to make the peace with Godden, but realises that he is seriously deranged. Frank's interview is very different from what he was expecting.

Frank receives confirmation of his job offer, but feels that there is still time for something to go wrong. Billy finds out that honesty isn't always the best policy. Sinbad places extra orders with the Close's milkmen, but may not be around to collect them.......

Josie returns to Mick's, but he isn't convinced by her motives. Katie thinks everyone could have done more for Sinbad, but Frank believes he set the shed on fire himself. Sammy returns from Blackpool, and won't talk to Owen.

The girls hanging around the Close hoping to see Geoff are getting on everyone's nerves. Sammy makes a decision about her future. Rod finally discovers the truth about Billy's involvement in the supermarket robbery.

The groupies finally meet megastar Geoff, and are agog with indifference. Sinbad tries to convince the residents that the new window-cleaner is not up to his standard, but all the upstairs windows seem to be fine.......

Frank tries to find out why his new job has fallen through. Bumper continues to develop a new image for Geoff. Barry tries to interest Terry in a new idea, and Tracy encourages Rod to ask a friend in the CID to warn off Joey Godden.

Frank wants to confront Marsland, but Chrissy is frightened of a mouse in the house. Rod's mate leans on Joey Godden, but can the Corkhills avoid further trouble? Bumper wants advice on asking girls out, while everyone else just wants a quiet life.

Bumper causes Geoff to be dropped from the football team. Jimmy stand up to Godden, with tragic results.

There's doom and gloom in the Close, as the surviving Corkhills gather for a funeral, Terry is called to the hospital when Daniel is taken ill, and Mick is summoned to see Harry, who has made a decision about the bungalow.

There are unforeseen consequences when Max and Patricia Farnham enlist help from Growler and Bumper to move into their new home. Mick gives Josie an ultimatum. Sheila is irritated by how nice Doreen is being, but Jimmy agrees she is right to be suspicious.

Sheila throws Doreen out. Mick panics when he gets a call from Josie to say that Leo has disappeared. Terry bottles out of the rave party when he finds out from Barry that it's only semi-legal. Max discovers that all his tools have been stolen from his shed.

Frank is job-hunting. Jimmy's plans for revenge on Joey Godden go wrong. Max loses interest in plumbing in the washing machine and sets about installing a burglar alarm, and Patricia is bitten by crocodile crisps.

While Patricia is arguing against a crocodile, her boss is naming it, colouring it and giving it a family. Barry takes his own precautions to protect Sheila and Claire. When Max's alarm won't stop ringing, Mick's balloons escape.

When his burglar alarm goes off again, Patricia summons Max home from a Round Table dinner. Sheila decides that she and Claire must leave the Close. It's Leo's birthday party, and someone is going to be splashed with fizzy drinks.

Barry takes the law into his own hands and makes Godden realise he has met his match. The Farnhams' healthy regime is turned upside-down by a piece of toast.

Barry gets rid of the evidence, and makes a big dent in Jimmy's pride. Mick tries to set up his own version of a home computer. Margaret wants to go out for the evening, but she can't if Max isn't home on time.......

Barry's plans go with a bang, but to what extent is this due to the police? Mick worries that Josie is starting to overspend, and Max and Patricia become concerned that their new neighbours aren't going to be the sort they were hoping for.

Leo looks forward to his first day at a new primary school. Terry considers whether to invest in another of Barry's ventures. The Dixons - DD, Ron, Jacqui, Mike and Tony - move in to the Close.

Mick convinces Leo to go back to school. Sinbad tries to rebuild his window round by calling on the new residents of the Close. Barry goes undercover to investigate a new warehouse for the next rave.

Sammy is mortified when Owen tells Mike about her drinking. Patricia returns home to find a mad fruit and veg man forcing carrots across the Farnham battle line. Mick discovers from Leo's teacher the true nature of his problem at school.

Max wants to set up a neighbourhood watch scheme, but no-one else is keen to run it. Frank tries to repair his window. Tony and his friends collect for Guy Fawkes Day. Tracy and Nikki decide on a holiday.

Terry has a difficult job to do. Patricia isn't keen to let Max increase his time with Matthew and Emily. Sinbad makes a deal with Ron, and Harry's armchair covers a lot of ground.

Sammy finally does the right thing by Owen. Jimmy is approached to set up the neighbourhood watch scheme. Terry helps Sue to arrange her mother's funeral.

The wrong things are said and done when Sue and Terry return from the funeral. Barry turns a good deed into something underhand. Ron discovers that someone has dropped a fridge into his skip.

Jimmy can run from Kathy, but he can't hide....... Terry builds himself up to ask Sue to come home. Tracy's miserable attitude is spoiling Nikki's holiday.

Tony's bonfire pile and Max's blood pressure are both mounting. Jimmy tries to make amends with Kathy, but she has had enough. A day out for Nikki, Tracy, Sam and Aki goes disastrously wrong.

The park gang have stolen the bonfire pole and plan an act of retribution. Nikki and Tracy have very different opinions about what happened to Sam.
